Hi everyone. Has anybody heard from Somerville? I applied for the Nov deadline and received a letter of acceptance by late Jan. I'm still waiting for a response from a college. Is this delay normal? Thanks and sorry for my probably unjustified worry.
Oh, come on, that does not make any sense. They send rejection and acceptance letters simultaneously, over the span of some time. At this point it is still unclear and could go either way.
If I remember correctly and if they havent changed the regs recently, Tier 4 visa holder are allowed to work part-time during term time and full time during the holidays. You're allowed to bring dependants and your spouse can work full-time I think (though maybe you should double check this).
I really hope everything works out for you, Shakesper .
I will also be a Tier 4 Visa holder - I have checked with the British Embassy here and they have confirmed that spouses of Tier 4 visa holders are eligible to work full time in the UK, as long as the course the student is joining is 12 months or more.
No news for me as of yet. Asked for an email last Saturday and just checked my mailbox (US east coast). No news=bad news at this point? It seems all the admissions letters have been sent out? Do they send rejection letters after that?
It depends on your course. It seems that certain departments (like History and English) start to send out their decisions by mid-March while others notify later in the month. So, don't lose hope yet.

I haven't heard yet either and I'm US east coast. What strand did you apply for? I'm still holding out hope. It's only Tuesday! Hopefully it doesn't mean anything :/
Thank you !! I'm not eligible for any funding and didnt apply/tick any boxes.
If it's of interest to anyone, the email/letter mentioned that the success rate for funding was approx 1 in 4 this year.
one in four??? Wow, the English faculty has lots of scholarships!!! Out of curiosity, how come you applied for both an MSt and a DPhil? Do you already have a masters? Also, why are you not eligible for any funding?

Most American programs these days send out their acceptances anywhere from a week to a month before their rejections, so that's where this poster is coming from.
The Oxford system of rejections and acceptances being sent out simultaneously is quite rare here in the states.

this on itself though makes no sense...if they already know who they are accepting, why not send everything simultaneously?

1 to 4 for available awards to admitted applicants; have I got this right? I'm not very well versed with funding at all. You're reading Classics right - what's the usual ratio for your department?
I have a Masters in a related subject and thought I'd take a shot at both.
Ineligibility: lots of (annoying) reasons including nationality and residence.

I don't know the exact ratio (it isn't officially announced) but last year they had 7-8 scholarships for 36 people (this is based on the information from the department's funding site and the graduate admissions statistics. For Masters it's even worse...there are 4 scholarships for 62 people...) god, looking back at it, I still cannot believe how the hell I got a scholarship for my masters...whoever chose me must have been insane...I just hope that the same insane person is deciding this year...
That's so weird that you weren't eligible for any. For example the Clarendon award is open to everyone.

What exactly is their main deciding factor? A high percentage and references? Or other stuff like job experience?

I really don't know....Job experience does not really play a part in my subject, at all. I think written work/references and personal statement must have made the difference. My grades were OK, but not amazing in comparison to other people coming from my country. I had 9/10 and I know people with 9,7/9,4/9,3 who got in and didn't get funding. To this day, I don't know why I was chosen, especially since my undergraduate degree only included a few modules of the subject I applied for. I would give anything to know why me. It has been quite overwhelming, I am still scared I'll screw up and they'll be like 'damn we should not have given her the scholarship'.
1 in 4? Oh well. But surely, you must be eligible for Clarendon?
Sorry you're probably right - that's the one where they automatically consider everyone applying right? Do they include applications for 2nd Masters too?

Well anyway no luck for me there .
actually, I think that since you are applying for a second masters you might have not been eligible for it.
