*4 people each year.

In vino veritas!

You studied Economics? There is an Economics paper you can take.

I expect I'll completely humiliate myself in the exam but if one does not try one does not succeed!

yeah I wish that was enough. I have been getting very positive feedback throughout the year, I even presented a paper at a postgraduate conference, my proposal was a topic very important for my subject, my supervisor really wanted to work with me etc etc + I already had the AHRC and I still did not get it for a PhD. I did not do anything "wrong", it's just that when there are way more people than places you just cannot know. And it is weird cause last year it was Cambridge that did not offer me anything, and now it's the opposite.

The amount of AHRC funding available is apparently quite a bit less this year (not that there was a lot before), so I'm sure it's more about that than about anything you did/didn't do. I'm really sorry, though. Good luck with CHESS.

So I was notified by the Dep't I applied to that I wasn't accepted, rejected or waitlisted. They said that "we are as yet unable to inform you of our decision. This is because although your application has been assessed, a decision has not yet been confirmed." Has anyone heard anything similar to this? Good or bad thing? Thanks for any help.

weird reply... They'll probably re-evaluate u with the applicants from the next deadline... Thats what they are doing with me too.. Its better than rejection n u may end up with an acceptance later! good luck!
So when do we actually here back by?

So anyone else still waiting on their possible Political Science offer?!

Based on gradcafe I conclude that IR offers have been out, but cannot find any news on the msc/ mphil in Political Theory and Political Science. Anyone over here already received an offer?

Hi everyone!

I've applied for a DPhil by the November deadline and received an acceptance letter from the department by late January. Two days ago I decided to email the college of my preference since it was the tenth week without hearing a word from a college.

Yesterday I received a response saying the delay was due to an error in the University computer system, so my application wasn't available to the college.

In the afternoon, I received an acceptance email in which the amount required as financial guarantee was indicated. I'm expected to return the financial guarantee form by 20th June 2012.

I'm now wondering if I've been considered for the Clarendon fund or for the other scholarship I've applied to.

I also have another doubt. I'm expecting to get funding in my home country, but the results will only be available in August/September. Can I use the resources of a relative as a financial guarantee and then, if don't get the scholarship, decline the offer in August/September? Do I have to pay anything meanwhile?

Sorry for the length of this post.

Maybe you can write to the college, asking them to extend the deadline to July/August atleast? My college made me an offer a month ago, but I don't need to show financial guarantee till August 1st - so I think your college may be somewhat flexible about the deadline.

Meanwhile, you can show the resources of a relative as financial guarantee (including a signed statement from the relative) and then decline the offer if you don't get a scholarship. I don't think you actually need to pay anything before late August/early September anyway (but I'm not sure of this, and it varies by college so you best check with your college), so you can buy time till then.

Hi everyone,

Does anybody know if colleges require an acceptance sooner than the stated faculty deadline? I listed my term time address in my application, but will be at home for the next three weeks. Just don't want a letter with a college offer to go ignored for three weeks and me miss some kind of internal acceptance deadline!

Hey...so my college gave me a deadline which was a whole month earlier than my faculty deadline. Received my department offer in early Jan, and acceptance by April 16th. Received college offer on on March 1st and needed to accept with two weeks (by March 15th).

BUT...I got both offers by email and if thats the case for you, you needn't worry.

No, I haven’t studied economics, unless Smith counts; I'm a philosopher  By ‘geography/economics’ what I meant was ‘being in Australia/a poor sap that can’t afford to jet off to England for the vanishingly small hope of passing the exam and being admitted.’ My bad though. It was vague. Must have been the wine!

Thinking about it, however, to register for the exam I would have to have signed my contract, which would mean that I’d be in Oxford with funding. So, if that happens, why not? It would be great to be able to say that the first (and hopefully only) test I ever failed was for All Souls! Make some fun dinner conversation

I have an offer for the MPhil: Political Theory. I was told about it accidentally by Oxford's Accommodation Office, and the Department itself confirmed the offer when I emailed them.

It's nice to know I'm accepted, but I'm going to decline the offer in favour of LSE once I get the official letter. I reckon someone on the waiting list wants this more than I do.

So when do you guys expect the 'real' offers to go out? Or do you think @Ruire, that most people that have been accepted already have been cobtacted?

The department seemed to indicate they will try to contact everyone until the 30th of March (this is based on the replies two people here got when they directly contacted the politics department). I am stuck between the wish to contact them regarding my application directly and the notion that perhaps I shouldn't bother them if they're seemingly having delays.

Nah I visited the Politics and IR department when I was in Oxford and I spoke to a lady who works at the reception - she told me they can't give me any information about my specific application but that responses are being sent out this week (02.04-06.04) so there is still significant hope. You (we, rather) should also have our spirits lifted by the fact that thegradcafe results (for IR at least) listed only rejections for the MPhil (although one or two acceptances for the PhD) so perhaps they are sending rejections first. Perhaps there is no method at all to the madness and we are over-analyzing it.

ok, currently a bit too surprised to understand what this means, but got an email from the graduate funding administrator saying that my application for Weidenfeld scholarship is "currently being considered". They wouldn't be doing this unless I had been offered a place on the course or would they? (seriously, why are they doing everything backwards?)

it probably means you have an offer, but that your funding has not been approved yet. good luck
