ah Lincoln is beautiful  It's not one of the most popular colleges so hopefully you have decent chances of getting it

Yes it does look amazing! I'm hoping I get placed there but as I say I am not a particularly strong candidate.

don't underestimate yourself. You got into Oxford so you are a strong candidate! Just because you may have not won a scholarship (if you haven't) this does not mean you are not strong in your field. Good luck

Fate did not look kindly upon me! I just got the outcome. Didn't get Lincoln, going to be assigned another college.

I have a feeling this may take a while...

Sorry to hear that. How did you find out you didn't get into Lincoln - did they tell you, or did you just get an offer from somewhere else?

They told me - I asked them to let me know when they could. Turns out the decision was taken yesterday.

Apparently the internal deadline for college decisions on candidates who expressed a preference is 20th April so everybody should know by then whether they've been accepted by their prefered college.

Thanks very much for the info!

oh, I'm sorry to hear that, but don't worry, you'll love it wherever you go

has anyone that applied to the last deadline (march 9) already heard back? is it common to hear back earlier than stated on the official website (allegedly mid-may)?

I'm compiling a list of "undesirable" colleges that I hope I don't get for one reason or another. There's only four on the list so far and I'm almost through them all!

did you ask the faculty or the actual college to tell you whether you've been accepted to your college of preference? was it by email?

I phoned the college a couple of weeks ago and asked them to let me know when they had reached a decision.

Ah right. Well I just phoned Merton (Julie Gerhardi) and she said that the decisions haven't been made and that she's heard nothing from the English tutors, and that if she doesn't hear from them soon, she'll start chasing them by the start of next week.

She also said I should email her at the start of next week, so if anyone else is waiting to hear from Merton too, I'm guessing that's the time to do it

At least Linacre is relatively central. But I forgot to include the graduate-only colleges! So those two are going on the list (I just worked my way through the Norrington table).

As for the others, Somerville, St Hugh's, St Hilda's and St Anne's. I don't even know if I'm eligible for these but they seemed poorly situated, relatively ugly and/or had a number of other things wrong with them.

St Annes is actually quite pretty. The outside building is ugly but when you go inside it's very pleasant! A nice small cosy garden etc. Plus I've been to their formals and the food is perfect. On top of that it's quite good academically. At least for my subject the library was perfectly equipped (my bf is there and he always brings me books )

You know the Norrington table has nothing to do with grads, right?! It's based on how well a given year of undergraduates does in Finals, which is influenced by many factors at each college, including the proportion of students doing science subjects and the proportion of men in the year.

Hi, yes I know that. What I meant was I was just going through the colleges in the norrington table sequentially to assess their suitability. I forgot that the Norrington table isn't an exhaustive list of all the colleges.

Is that a monster too? It's hard to tell from some of the photos. Sort of like ugly people who post photos on Facebook just of an eyebrow, or taken from vast distances. Makes it hard to make a proper assessment.

St Peter's is central (and the right side of the centre for the coach and train stations, as well as the clubs and bars!) and has a lovely MCR - very plush!

It looked eminently suitable in the photos - not that I go to bars/clubs at all!
