I have to declare £37 000 (for one year) and like you it's all a bit worrying for me
This is after they sent me an email saying they under-quoted the college fee by £4000 - by that stage the sum was so overwhelming I was all 'no worries, I'll amend the form' - but now I'm wondering why my college fee is so high.

I have to guarantee £30k Urghhh!!

Uh, me too! Just got all my papers together, and it brings home the realisation that at the end of this course, I am going to have not a penny to my name PLUS a student loan. Aarrgghh!

Haha I'm not a fan of Ms May either. But dont you also have Aung San Su Yi? She's amazing.

Yep that does make up for it somewhat!

Just received my official college letter form St. Hilda's, asking me to declare £17,857.. So on one hand, I am happy I finally have a fixed college place, on the other hand slightly disconcerted by how much it is...

Yep. Over £21k for me. I may have to do something about these financial guarantees when I get there.

Well, hopefully your degree will pay for itself in a couple of years. Considering that master's elsewhere are not that much cheaper and that the Oxford name still carries a massive premium, it is worth it IMO.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I meant what was the academic requirement?

I already have a Masters degree so they wanted to see the transcripts for that.

The problem is the "premium" doesn't help when it comes to finding the money in the first place!

Got sent out stuff on Welcome events for European and International students today. Not sure if I'm mad on the idea as every orientation event I have ever attended has been horrifically boring and useless ... but it's probably a nice way to meet other non-home students. Anyway else heading to the orientation stuff or have experience of them? (Yeah, I do know it's months away)

£ 62 693 (although for two years) for me!

Which college is that? I though college fees are all around £ 2500? Does it include accommodation?

No idea bout Oxford but at my old uni it was some pillock in a bar singing patronising songs to a room full of people he assumed didn't speak English particularly well.

It's Queen's, but I think it might be my course (the BCL) that's causing the higher fees, rather than the college itself. As far as I know it doesn't include accommodation, but they did advise me of the increase in the same email as they offered me accommodation, so dare to dream

Any one from the march cohort heard about their college decision??
Hi guys, I've been away away from the forum for a while, but I hope all is well!

I was wondering, am I alone in not having received any information from the English department i.e. breakdown of costs, reading lists, in fact any documents at all apart from the college financial guarantee forms. I'm still an undergrad (for a few more weeks!) so not sure how the grad system works, but is it unusual not to hear from the department in this way? (Only they have failed to send me previous information, i.e. recently sent my college letter to the wrong email... but I called up recently and all was sorted thank god!) Anyway, I'm just checking up because I get a little worried now that it's just me that they consistently fail to communicate with!

Any comments would really be appreciated,
Thanks!

You're not alone - I've not received any information on reading lists etc. In fact I sent my undergrad transcript a couple of months ago for the academic condition and have not received an acknowledgement of that. For 'cost breakdown', I assume you mean fees and I think that's all handled by your college.

There was an email last week though reminding people to accept their offers by 1st June.

Hi guys
This is potentially a stupid question (apologies) but I thought I'd ask anyway. I'm looking at booking flights etc, my accommodation contract runs from the 15 September (which is a Saturday). Is there any reason why I shouldn't arrive on a Saturday/Sunday, or on the first day of the contract? (I.e. will everything be open?)
Would it be better to come up on the Monday, or is it expected that I be in residence from the start of the contract? (I'm quite keen to be there as early as possible, but I don't want to show up on a Sunday and everything be closed so I can't get my keys and things).

Any help is much appreciated - thanks

I know that sometimes in the smaller colleges the porters lodges aren't open on Sundays but if it says that your contract runs from the 15th then I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to show up then. You could email the accommodation officer of your college and ask. Worst case scenario you'd have to stay in a hostel for a night (which could be an interesting experience!).

Hope this helps somewhat
