btw - does anyone know what kinds of gowns we have to buy for the dinners, i.e. my college sent us a freshers pack today and it says I need to wear a gown on one of the freshers dinners. I have no idea what kind of gowns and where from ....??

Just go to Shepherd and Woodward on Turl St. They'll sort you out, just a standard UG gown.

Yes exactly  Do you know it? How´s it?

My friend lives there. It's really nice! She has an amazing room, full of light and very spacious. I don't know how the rest of the rooms are, the kitchen is great, there are more than one kitchens I think. Anyway generally it's really nice. My friend is a Greek person, you'll meet her I guess
Also - does anyone have any idea what the 24 pre-loaded dinners are about? My college requires 24 every term, which is fine, but I am curious, are these formal dinners? or is it just they want you to dine with the rest of the college at whatever point in the term, but at least 24 times? And if so, why is there this insistance? #Curiosity
I'm wondering about how DPhil students view the lectures available for this term. Is there a list? Do you need to register to attend? How does this work? Thanks!

Hi - the English faculty combined lecture list is usually posted on Weblearn although I dont think it's been updated for next term. As far as I know lectures are open to all and you wont need to register.

Hello everyone,
I'm still waiting for my Freshers pack, does it actually contain any information that we need to return before we arrive (e.g. do we have to return the college contract before we arrive)?

You're welcome . Are you all set for Oxford now - I seem to remember you were considering Cambridge as well?

Oxford it is! It was a tough choice, because I was lured by an offer from the stunning St. John's at Cam. But my supervisor won the day at Oxford. I had to remember that the aesthetics and perks of the college weren't the main thing. Studying with my Oxford supervisor would be too good to give up. Thanks for asking.

How are your plans coming? (feel free to send me a DM, if you'd like to chat off the forum)

I posted back my college (Univ) contract already, but similarly no freshers pack.

I found online a number of things I need to send back, namely a Network Use Policy and a Treasury Form which I think require posting and and NHS registration form which can be sent digitally.

Hope this helps.

Hi fellow Univ student,
they have just uploaded everything on the web, soon we should get it in the mail, too:

Oh yes I think you've told me this before. Sorry to keep asking the same question - my memory's like a sieve!!

My plans are going okay at the moment although the thick MSt reading list is pretty daunting. I'm not sure how I'm going to get through a fair bit of it by October! I'm also torn between the B course and extra C options.

May I ask if you covered a lot on history of the book and bibiliography in your previous Master's course? Are you planning to pick up some research courses during the DPhil too?

Is the college contract the same as the university contract sent to you by the college to be returned to exam schools? I completed the uni contract and the forms on my college checklist (direct debit, financial guarantee, IT forms, next-of-kin etc) but you got me worried about a college contract now .

the University contract was sent to me by the department, and I was told that there would be a college contract in the freshers pack. If you click on the University college example it does say student college contract.
Which, if any, of the colleges offers the historical wood panneled housing in college for postgraduates?
