She's at Worcester College studying English literature and certainly will be gone once we arrive. What a pity!

yeah it will be a terrible loss for everyone here...I think the University is going to establish an annual mourning day.

haha yes it was sarcasm... I saw her once, and I know people who have seen her once or twice. A friend from worcester said she saw her in the first formal dinner (she brought her parents...come on Emma! If any other student had done that they would be laughed at for the rest of the year...but she is Emma Watson, no one would do that ) but apparently she's never seen her since. I don't think she lives in college.

By "uni" you mean?? Oxford is a city university, meaning that departments etc are spread all over the city. So unless you study english lit and go to the same department/library then you won't see her at uni.

Congratulations!

Quick questions: did they email you today or did you get a letter?
@ Xhristina and Zenobia. Thank you very much for your answers.

I have a couple of more questions pertaining to the SoP:

1. Is it advisable to start the SoP with an anecdote/case study that is closely related to what one intends to study at Oxford?
2. Does anyone here have experience of submitting a sample of writing in language other than English. Specifically, given that I am applying to Oriental Studies department, I would like to demonstrate my knowledge of Arabic somehow. However, although well-written, the topic of that paper is very different from the one I intend to study.

Once again, thanks a lot.

The sample has to be in English, they even say so. Now if it has quotes from books etc in Arabic, fair enough, but it should be written in Englih

What do you mean anecdote/case study??

I have to second the question above: are people notified of their offers by email or ordinary mail?

Hello everyone,

I am applying for an Ms.T in Oriental Studies (focus on Islamic world). I have a couple of questions for everyone:

1. How long should the SoP be? I read somewhere on the Oxford website that it should not be longer than a single page. However, this seems ridiculously short.
2. Given that I intend to use this Ms.T as a stepping stone towards PhD, should I outline my research interests in detail, just in passing, or not at all?
3. Should I state that my goals involve becoming academic/book writer/public, or does that sound plain dull?

Thanks,
Klackalica:redface:

1. Look at their program page. It may be two pages (for MPhil Russian and East European Studies it is actually two pages).
2. Definitely mention it, but as to "how much detail" - given briefness of the SoP you have to balance it yourself. If this is the most important thing you want to tell them - take your space, otherwise you may have to cut it a bit shorter in order to allow for other things to be well developed.
3. Same thing as in 2.

My advice - write everything you want and then edit it down until it fits the required size.

PS- what program are you actually applying for?
The only MSt they have that is related to Islamic world is MSt in Islamic Art and Archaeology:

Are people who applied for the same course all notified on the same day of the outcome of their application, be it an offer or a rejection?

Me and bookfaces got told of our offers on the same day (probably at the exact same time?) and we applied for the same course..

4 people at my college received the offer at the same time on the same course. None (of the 6 applied) received rejection though.

This means they do not notify everyone on the same day then because those two other people did not hear back anything.
