Dear all,

I just went over my grad application and realized that I made a huge mistake.

Namely, in the funding section I ticked the field next to "Clarendon Fund: We may override your preferred college choice (if you have indicated one) in order to enable you to take up funding you are awarded by a different college. This may apply to Clarendon scholarships as described above, and other funding. If you do NOT wish to have your preference changed to take a funding offer, please tick this box."

Which goes long way in saying how sleepy I was when I was doing my final review of the application. Is there any way I can contact admissions (and who?) in order to have my tick removed, given that this was completely opposite of what I had intended.

Please, any suggestions?

Thanks.

I would just ring them. Oxford seem allot more personable than the Cambridge department I had contact with. did you also specify a preferred college? If not I wouldn't worry as they will just stick you where they can fund you anyway.

Thanks guys for your replies and congratulations to all who received offers.

Hope Oxford can get back to us quickly re funding/college.

I will let you know once hearing more news.

Hi would you mind me checking whether it matters which college you choose?

I ticked no preference because I don't really mind (I'm thinking any college is good), but does it affect my application positively or negatively?

Neither. The relevant department decides whether to give you an offer or not and only then does your application get passed around the colleges.
Although it does of course mean that you're unlikely to end up at one of the colleges that lots of people put down (like, say, Balliol).

It should be somewhere in the prospectus, but I think it's usually roughly by the time the next batch of offers is sent out (i.e. March). It's hard to be definite about this, though, because it varies. April seems reasonable, though.

I was just rejected from my 1st choice College at Cambridge, if that says anything about Oxford; I didn't apply to a super-popular college so I am not sure why I've been rejected this early in the year.

Hahahaha we'll see. That would be funny. (It does happen sometimes in Durham xP As long as you didn't apply to the Castle anything is possible.)

I like my 2nd choice as well though, although it's less centrally located. I'll live. It has free coffee too. Fingers crossed I'll get that one then =P
Double fingers and toes crossed though that they move me to a College because it has better scholarships!

It might be different this year, but I was never notified last year when my college of choice rejected me. The first I knew of it was when I received an offer from the college that did take me on.

Oh no!! Was it pembroke? :frown:
What's your second choice?
Also I didn't know that Cambridge notifies us if we get rejected by our first college. In Oxford you never know until you get a college offer (from your choice or another one)

Hey sorry I accentually negged you. I was trying to quote you :frown:
Sorry about that.
Just to say that they don't tell you why they rejected you. If you are moved to a college + offered a scholarship from it at the same time then you know it's because of that.
