I'm flattered then, having been accepted to this program in the past without any of the above.

You don't seriously think the statement of purpose got you in?

Hi all,

I am really confused with the questionnaire thing people have been receiving in their e mail from the department they applied to. I applied for msc by research in engineering science sometime in december but havent received any such e mail from my department yet. Do I need to contact my department and ask them to send me the e mail for questionnaire thing ??
Thanks in advance for those who could point me out in the right direction

No. This questionnaire thing seems to be performed by CompSci. As far as I am aware, for the M.Sc. courses in Engineering Science (Taught or Research), no such thing is performed. You might however be interviewed, however that depends on the candidate.

No, actually I don't. A better one on my funding applications might have got me funding though.:frown: But there are courses where it can make a difference, especially to borderline candidates.
In many cases the letter of intent can make a difference. It's in the department's interest that some proportion of the admitted class be hoping to stay on for doctoral study: they will need incoming doctoral students in 2013 and if none or too few of the Masters course students are looking to stay on, they are going to be buying several pigs in pokes. In the case of the Cambridge MPhil in Economics now being for some reason discussed this is avoided by the dual entry tracks, but that is by no means true of all courses and the question of whether you are viewing this as a terminal qualification or as a staging post to research is something the department will want to know.

Each Department does things slightly differently - it may well be that Engineering don't have this step in the process. In Computer Science we find it a useful way of finding out more about the candidate, but Engineering might well have a different approach. By all means contact their postgraduate administrator if you're concerned you've missed something.

yes, thru skype. im not sure what exactly I want to study.. :frown:
killing me... why interviewww.w...

i'm sure that if they decided to interview you it's because they see potential in your app so don't stress ;-)
I'm not overly sure how a Masters degree wil look when applying for a PhD. However, bearing in mind we're talking about Oxford, I would do it, purely for the academic rep.
Ahhh offer from Brasenose! apparently they emailed me with the offer on the 1st but it went into my junk. Whops
I'm getting a little nervous about the fact that I still haven't heard from any college. My offer letter has arrived 4 weeks ago (per email, 2 weeks ago per mail). It's a conditional offer but nevertheless I should get a college place soon, shouldn't I? Desperately checking my email/mail for days now....

Hehe yea, I applied right away when I got the mail a week ago. Good luck with your application

Did you receive confirmation that they received your materials?

Hehe yes, I got asked this a few times in my inbox and the ones who didn't get confirmation received it a few days after  So you should be fine! I got my confirmation really quickly though, about 1 minute after I sent it... probably because I was the first applicant sending something in, so the person in charge must not have been very busy just yet :P

I wouldn't spend too much time worrying. If you got into your first choice college then it might be sooner rather than later. However, the web-site does say 8-10weeks. This does seem quite accurate. Last year, I got an offer in early April and found out end of June/July.

last year the 11th of March one which might have an impact considering most of the places were probably taken by the time my application got round to the college phase

Same here. For me it is almost 5 weeks ago since I got my offer. :frown: I think the odds are not getting any better...
