I know, I know! It's so nerve-wracking. Which department did you apply to out of curiosity? "End of February" could still mean until beginning of next week, but I wish they wouldn't leave it so late...

:frown: *sigh* At least I'm not alone then haha. It's so frustrating!!! I just want to knoooow! Beginning to think they've forgotten about me...
I applied for the DPhil Astrophysics. I even know that other DPhil applicants that applied to other departments (particle physics I think) have offers already. Astro haven't even held interviews yet!

Yeah... I'm pretty sure this is a natural feeling (unfortunately)! It doesn't help that Oxford are probably toying with us though. US universities are even worse... the whole process is so impersonal and mechanical.

I applied for the MSc in Computer Science (and also Mathematics and Foundations of Computer Science, which is in the maths department). My undergraduate was actually in theoretical physics, and I nearly considered applying for a PhD in astrophysics/cosmology!

We probably shouldn't read too much into when others get interview offers, but fancy joining on the "pact" of letting each other know heh? There's a few of us here already.
I think we'll start to hear in about 2/3 weeks anyway. I guess this makes sense, nearer the end of term here etc.

Two to three weeks is when we should hear final acceptance/rejection decisions, I thought. Interview notice out to be well before then.

Ah, okay... The one I've applied to definitely does. I can scarcely imagining them accepting someone without an interview. :s-smilie:
Anyone here applying for the MSt/ MPhil in Late Antique and Byzantine Studies? Here's goes my second chance to have my academic dreams smashed in the front of me when they have no funding available! (still a little bitter about last year :P)

Did the people who applied for this scholarship receive a confirmation that their application was considered, or something? I sent it in but have heard nothing, so I'm wondering.

I didn't get any confirmation either, so I'm assuming they just didn't bother to send any to anyone!

(To be fair, they probably had a lot of people send in application forms, but I still think it would have been nice to have a generic 'thank you for your application' confirmation...)

I applied for English and apparently they very rarely (okay, never that I've heard of) let anyone know earlier than the third week of March. I could be wrong –in which case I'll definitely be obsessively checking my email. I had a nightmare that my application was incomplete... it's definitely going to be a long month.

Cool, yeah I applied for Global and Imperial History so I'm going to guess it'll be similar (absolutely no basis for this assumption) and had some weird nightmares too, including one where a university that's already accepted me decided to take back the offer because they didn't want to take other people's rejects! Starting to think that the reaching-fanatical checking of the e-mail for responses for universities is just a distraction from writing lesson plans I should be doing though.

There is some indication on the website of when we can expect outcomes to be communicated to us:

http://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/postgraduate_courses/apply/outcomes.html
But that's outcomes, we're worrying about interviews.
I know my course DEFINITELY do interview. Bit annoyed they're leaving it so late tbh, they could at least put people out of their misery if they definitely don't want to interview them.
And of course Noldorin, I'll let you know if I hear anything  Good luck!
Just been on the phone with the Department of Computer Science. Apparently the admissions board is still in session, and (at least my) applications are still being looked at. Admissions (as in, Wendy) don't know exactly when the board will get back to them, but they're hoping it'll be within a week (so before then end of Feb). However, it could be longer than that because the board is really busy, there's lots of applications to process etc. Apparently international applicants get priority.

Try to keep calm people!

Edit: forgot to mention that I was also very explicitly told that the amount of time between hearing from them should not be taken as any indication towards getting called to interview or not. They really aren't sure when the board's going to get back to them, or when they'll have contacted everyone.

Edit 2: this is for the January 20th deadline only. YMMV for the March deadline.

Edit 3: after a follow-up email, it looks like they're hoping to tell us all either way by the end of next week.

You can't do a DPhil at Oxford without doing an MA first. Ideally, you should provide at least one reference from your supervisor or tutor on your Master's course. If you get an offer from Oxford, it will almost certainly be conditional and will depend on your Master's results. This is generally the same for all universities.

You do not need a Masters degree to apply for a DPhil at Oxford, though certainly it will help as you will need to prove good academic knowledge of your topic, and some experience in research.

Admitted to Oxford DPhil without a Masters degree (as was my brother)

I got it today. I had another question I forgot to ask on the phone, so I sent it via email instead and got a reply about 30 minutes (or so) later.

I wholly agree.

And thanks; best of luck to you too ! It seems I won't know to end of next week, but at least that's some news.
I just got called to interview by telephone.
