First of all thank you very much for your answer.
I am actually a little confused about all this stuff about accomodation and boureaucracy because I didn't really think that I could manage to get in. I wanted to apply to some universities in the UK in order to study abstract mathematics and logic so I applied to Oxford too, more because I felt it was a duty to try since I already planned to write and collect all the stuff (e.g. personal statement, records, references, etc..) for the others.
But then a week later a letter arrived. Apparently I am in if I can manage to pass all my exams by the end of July (Italian university system is very different so it is not so sure I can manage to do so)
I do not remember at all which "accomodation option" I ticked XD

Ah, I can see why getting an offer would catch you unawares in that case. Good luck with the exams! (Which reminds me that I'm putting off working on an essay that's due next week by posting in this thread...)

Still freaking out over here. Venus_In_Furs, is your last name by any chance close to the beginning of the alphabet? Odd question and maybe a bit too personal (sorry!) , but from last year's thread it would seem they work through it in alphabetical order...

Hey, no, it's middle-ish. As someone already said, I think they only emailed me because they had to set up this interview thing, otherwise I wouldn't know. I still don't have the letter in writing though, and I've been very lucky to also be offered AHRC funding from my old uni this week...and need to let them know by Wednesday. So I might send another email to the dept? Praying the post brings news tomorrow!

I'm at work, but my mum has just text me saying there's a letter from Oxford waiting at home. HERE WE GO! Good luck, everyone...

I really, really want to open it myself. I remember the bitter experience of opening the last one, 5 years ago... Nail biting though, I'm dying here. And should be working...!

haha well you already know you have an offer + a scholarship. You just don't know which scholarship, so in any case it is definitely not bad news.
Anyway, I admire your patience.

Wow i admire your patience too. I would have begged my mom to bring it to me. That being said, my mom is in the US and I'm in London (Switzerland next week!) and they're sending the letter to the US... so I guess if it's a no, at least I won't have the bad experience of opening it. Really hoping they'll send me an email (with good news...)

OMG hard copies arriving already??! Let us know what's in the letter and the postdate too !!!

PS How did the scholarship interview go?

Guess it's getting exciting now that the letters seem to be coming out!

Thanks to everyone who responded to my spiral of doom there - good to know normal people definitely do exist in Oxford! (But, just so you know, you might find your good nature being completely abused as if I start having more panic attacks about stupid things)

Stumbled upon the Students' Union site. It's not exactly the best website in the world but it had just about enough information (added to the responses from here) to calm me down enough to think about it properly. New life plan: no making rash decisions after mental days at work - will be cool, calm, and collected from now on.

Just had it - really, really well! He was so nice. 'The worst case scenario is you get AHRC funding. See you in October'. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Edit - will let you know about postmark date and that as soon as I get home!

I was a little worried about this but to be honest I think the grads may be different. You've gotta be there because you REALLY love your subject. I'm from a state school in the north originally. And I just spoke to one of the tutors on the phone and he couldn't he been nicer. Go for it!

LOL. Just when I was all set to go to LSE and planning who to live with Oxford goes and thows a spanner in works.

Now just like everybody else who thought they wouldn't get in im doing the whole "Sh*t I should have picked X College" but im aware just putting it on your application is no way indicative of where you might actually end up. two questions

1. For postgrads do people ever get pooled into other UG/PG colleges or just PG only? Not sure I wan't to go to a PG only college

2. Are you allowed to go lectures of courses you aren't doing. I'd really like to go to some introductory Computer science classes

2. yes you are
Got the letter through today too! Mst English 1550-1700. Post mark dated 15th March. Can't believe it. As with Venus_in_Furs I was rejected by Oxford - 6 years ago in my case. WaSaDa - I'm also a state school kid, my secondary school is currently inches away from special measures so you can put down one more comprehensive kid!

No funding for me but a chance of the reserve list apparently. Anyone fancy dropping out?
