    I was happier when I believed in a God and lived a moral life. But I was not free. Now I'm sad but free and there's actually a strange satisfaction in that.

    Thanks. I am living in a country right now where many people have only a very rudimentary education.
    Seeing their relative happiness made me wonder if ignorance (including not knowing that you are ignorant of some things) is really such a bad thing.

    Instinctively I knew that knowledge is always good, but rationally I was not able to prove it.
    That is why I created this thread.

    And I was not disappointed! Thank you all for sharing your own unique perspective with me.
