It has recently been brought to my attention that the Army has reinstated the gap year commission (GYC) and brought online a new program called "Lead First".

    The BLUF:

    GYC:

    8 week course at RMAS.
Attachment to a regular unit for the remainder of your gap year.

    Who can apply?
To apply for the scheme, you should be about to start your final year at school, and be planning to go to university after your gap year.
You must be 18 by the time you plan to start at Sandhurst (1 August).
You must be predicted to get 180 UCAS points (or equivalent) and have 35 ALIS points, including a C or above in English language, maths and a science or foreign language).
You must already have a confirmed offer of a university place.
    You should be physically fit.
Army Scholars cannot apply for this scheme.

    More information here.

    Lead First:

    8 week course at RMAS
Sponsored by an Army Reserve unit, you will have the opportunity to go on attachment to Regular Army units and conduct adventurous training (scuba diving/parachuting/hill walking 🌝) for up to 12 months.
CMI level 5 qual at the end.

Eligibility is as for GYC, less the requirement for a university place as it can be conducted post graduation and prior to getting a normal/proper job.

    Further info here.
