Who's the best impact sub that you've seen play, watched etc?

    During my lifespan:
    Tottenham:
    Heung-Min Son
    Jermain Defoe
    Roman Pavlyuchenko
    Niko Kranjcar.

    What about you?

    Damn true!

Think substitutes are often a very underrated part of the game. Often teams aim for world class transfers straight for the starting eleven. Bench is important too!

Although I guess with a lot of clubs nowadays, the bench is reserved for youth players: giving them insights into the matchday feeling, slowly building them into the game

    Not good enough to start?

    Or better impact from bench?

Both. There's obviously no way he starts up front over Sanchez, and in any circumstance I don't think he's a top striker on the level that other PL clubs have either.

He is also best when he's fresh into the squad after being out for a while (end of 14/15, start of 15/16 and recently this season). At the end of last season when he was starting weekly he was garbage.

I agree with this. I think these days there's more of a culture of squad rotation so players don't get badged as the regular sub.

Back in the late 1990s, early 2000s, Solskjaer, Kanu and Tore Andre Flo were class acts from the bench. Their egos could handle being on the bench which meant their managers could keep them happy without them demanding transfers.

Solskjaer was probably the most underrated striker of his time. As a finisher you could make a case for him being even ahead of Cole and Van Nistelrooy.

In recent times, Javier Hernandez and Edin Dzeko had good spells as impact subs.
