i was driving home from tesco and it had obviously been raining because the road was wet...and then i looked in my mirrors (on the outside of the car) and they started to steam up....almost like frost...like the bathroom mirror does when you have a shower...and then all the windows started steaming up...but on the outside not the inside..and then steam started coming from the road surface.....and then a little later it just suddernly stoped!

    it was sooooooo freaky....

anyone else had random experiences because of the weather?

They steam up because it's cold outside (cold weather) and warm inside (you breathing).

Sorry to rain on your parade, but that's not really very spooky.

Was on a family holiday in Yorkshire in '96 and there was torrential rain, looked out the window and there was a tornado, hanging and swirling there in the sky, looking really eerie. Wish I'd had my camera with me!!

lol, you think its cold outside??? are you living in a cave?

and in your scinario the steam would be the water particles that i was breathing out and the condensation would be on the inside of the glass.....

i remember going on a motorway at night. it was one of those that doesnt have lamp posts so it is basically pitch black.
i was going around 70mph, then my front lights started flashing as if the battery was running out, i started crapping myself caus i couldnt see, but luckily i survived
why do they have motorways that are not lit up?

ps: went to the garage the next day, and the lights were in perfect working condition..............now thats spooky!

most motorways are lit up by those big lights and they have the cats eyes. this one was just a big road with cars zooming past either side at fast speeds and without front lights for 5 second intervals and while going round a bend my life flashed before my eyes!

I saw a tornado (only a small one) in the middle of Lake Garda, Italy though I was walking not driving. It was really windy as you would expect.

Drving experience though is once when we were driving to my nans house (about 5 miles away) and the fog was so bad that you literaly couldn't see more than a foot in front of you!

The steam is from the road surface. Given the high SHC of tarmacadam, and the fact that it has been hot for a long time now the tarmac would have been warm. When the rain stoped the water on the road would begin to be evoprated by the residual heat in the tarmacadam. You can observe this quite often - I have myself. From there on there will be water vapour/ steam - like in the bathroom after a shower. They then condense on the glass.
It stopped either beacuse you had moved onto a dry area or there was insufficient heat to create steam left in the tarmacadam.
