I'm doing my A Levels and I've found that most people in my year are bringing in their own laptops to use for revision/work so a month or so ago, I thought about getting one myself. I've managed to save up £200 (job + birthday/christmas) but I want to try and save half of that. I can't seem to find a good quality/lightweight laptop for that price so does anyone know a cheap, small/lightweight laptop that could be bought for £100 - £120? If not, I might have to weight until next school year to get one.

Laptops in that price range simply don't exist, let alone good laptops. The best you'd find is the super cheap £60 laptops on eBay that run Android. They would be a waste of money.

The cheapest proper laptops start at around £300. For £150-£200 you start seeing stream machines and Chromebooks. Keep in mind though that normal laptops in this price range (with exception of the smaller chromebooks) tend to be 2Kg, 15 inch machines. Your notes should be smaller and lighter to carry so bringing a laptop really doesn't help.

If you are just using it for reading notes then consider getting a cheap tablet. It won't be amazing but it's better than nothing.

£300 is the sweet spot here. Anything below that is tacky and unreliable.

If you're willing to go 2nd hand get a thinkpad X220. Not bad machines for the price. They'll do basic work. Fully upgradable except the processor. 2nd gen I5. Just be sure you use it as a 2nd machine. It won't be able to do heavy graphical work.

For that price you're looking 2nd hand and as SomeGuyHere suggested I would also be looking at a Lenovo Thinkpad. Aim for 4gb of RAM and an i5 cpu so that you can run modern Windows.

Even thats a stretch for used products. £300 would just about cut it (You'd have to be very lucky) but it isn't possible.

Chromebook or second hand. I would go second hand, but pen and paper would be ok.
