One of my flat mates HOGS the kitchen, he is always in there either gaming/ watching tv/ eating etc etc. His bedroom is a tip so I guess that's one of the reasons why he never really chills in there. It's unfair on the rest of the flat as he's pretty much marked it as his own territory, especially since he leaves his stuff all over the kitchen tables and sofas. So I automatically see it as a no-go area and tend to chill in my room which is annoying

Any similar experiences/ any advice on what I can do?

Why can't you just sit there too? Does your kitchen only have one chair?

Just go sit in there. If his stuff is spread around just pile it up together in a corner/box to send a bit of a message that he's spreading out too much.
