Mine are quite easy, but I imagine that your's will probably slacken a bit or at least become easier after practice.
If you're struggling to attach the suspenders to the stockings when wearing them, then do it before you put the stockings/belt on. It's soooo much easier!

Slightly related - I bought holdups yesterday for the first time - am a bit worried they'll come tumbling down though :frown:

I had holdups onee and they kept slipping down!
Really annoying when I wore them out one time.

I just go for full tights now.

Hold-ups are good, they mean you're less sweaty than in full tights. You just need to make sure you get some with good adhesive so that they stay up well. They seem to ladder less easily than full tights as well.

I'd like to try stockings but don't you have to buy special knickers to wear the stockings with/attach the suspender belt to? How does it work?

Sorry for the thread hijack but what holdups would you girls reccommend? I got mine for 4.50 from M&S, and they have these sticky adhesive things at the top, under the lacy bits.

I've had the M&S ones before and they seem to bear up quite well. I've also tried the Matalan ones which are also surprisingly good for the price. Inevitably they will lose their stickiness after a while but for £4.50 a pair it's hardly extortionate and as I've already said, they ladder less easily anyway.

I had some Primark ones that were shockingly bad, but the ones I got from Debenhams weren't much better (re: Primark they were really loose so they just didn't grip, and bearing in mind I row I have MASSIVE thighs so I don't get how they can be loose?! :s-smilie:)

No, you should just be able to buy a standard suspender belt and then you attach the stockings to that. No special knickers are required, unless you really like matching your underwear.
There are some knickers that have suspenders built into them but they're often more expensive than a standard belt.

I get a lot of mine in Tesco - basically the only shop I visit during term time  I find that they're quite good, and relatively cheap compared to some of the others around.
You could look at places like Tightsplease for branded ones like Charnos, Jonathon Aston etc., if you'd prefer. For anybody with a fairly slender leg, I've seen some that are supposed to be slimmer in the leg, but I can't remember where it was that I saw them. I'm sure that Google will help you with that one!
Try to make sure that you get the right size for your legs, otherwise they'll always fall down no matter what you do. Most good brands have size guides to follow, but don't be scared to try a different size to see if they're any better for you. Also, try moving the band up and down your leg to find the best position for it, because you might get a better grip around certain areas of your thigh.
If you use moisturiser or oils on your legs then you'll probably find that the hold-ups don't grip very well, so make sure that you wait for your legs to dry before putting them on.

Can you get hold-ups that are more than 10 denier or will they just look crap? I keep laddering mine

People, another holdups Q - I put mine on earlier this morning and so far they seem to be staying up well. Slight problem though. I'm wearing them with a tightish skirt that ends just above the knee, so when I sit, my skirt moves up 3-4 inches above my knees (this being when I sit with one leg over the other). You can just sort of see a bit of the hold up lace (the stuff at the top of the thing) fom the side ie where my skirt meets the hold up. What should I do? Can I get away with it? Or will it look really sleazy?

It's for that precise reason that I don't wear short skirts with holdups (unless I'm deliberately trying to seduce someone  ).

As long as you can barely see the lace (so it's only poking out a fraction by a few millimetres), I think you could probably get away with it as long as the rest of your outfit is reasonable. Considering that we're talking about Miss Minimo here, I'll safely assume that you're dressed rather tastefully

Well I'm wearing the skirt I was supposed to return but which now looks good again, white shirt and browny/tan/checky waistcoat. I realised I can't bend with holdups though. Became a sliiiiiight problem when trying to get books off the bottom shelf in the library just now.

as a seasoned stocking/holdups wearer (having very long legs and finding tights, therefore, to be the most uncomfortable thing in existance), i have a little 'in the know' tip for you girlies.

instead of wearing stockings with your suspender belt, wear hold-ups with it. That way, you have the extra grip factor of the sticky part, but the security of the suspender belt lest the grip slacken.

it works

Reply 16

Can't bend? :s-smilie: Is that because they'll lose their grip or because they become visible?

Reply 17

Tbh, I dunno if it's whether they become visible or because i'm PARANOID they'll become visible. The skirt ends just above the knee, so it isn't short at all. Argh!

I don't have a full lenhth mirror in my college room, so will pop into town now and have a look in one of those 360 degree mirrors.

i'm gonna be a total noob, as i hate tights and not bothered with stockings, what's the difference between 10 denier and 15 denier? is it thickness?

Reply 19

yeah, 15's thicker I think.
