    Hi,

If someone was trying to find me at university and I didn't want to be found there how easy would it be? If they know my personal details eg date of birth, could they locate me? Should I tell the university not to give out my personal information to random people?

Your university won't share personal information.

You need to check with your it and course/department if they have any public listing of student details (and when you graduate often graduating lists will be made public).

It's perfectly possible and straightforward to ask for your details to be completely kept private if that's your preference. If you're worried about someone specific harassing or tracking you down then explaining those concerns with your student support/services team should help them help you.

Agreed. But from a pure data protection point of view, you do not need to supply a reason for wanting your data to remain private. The only problem might be if the universities terms and conditions required the publishing or sharing of data. It could conceivably be the base that if you enroll you agree to the terms.
