Let's just say that the entire funding model of the union pretty much relies on the sports clubs buying enormous quantities of alcohol at Phineas and Mullys on Wednesday nights.

On a serious note, I have a feeling that this another of those things that only really exists on TSR.

Sure, there's a lot of booze at university - but why wouldn't there be? Get thousands of 18-21 year olds together with a bit of liberty and money, and what do you think will happen?

But I don't recognise the idea that there is no socialising at university that isn't centred on consuming. That's not a reality. If you don't drink, you don't drink. No-one will care, but you will have to either put up with people who do - or find like minded people.

Pretty much. Some have weekend fixtures, but most BUCS is Wednesday all across the country.

I hate dunking alcohol, it makes me feel sick and it's just not something I enjoy at all. But I enjoy making friends and socialising. The problem is that I'm worried that most of the social activities at uni are going to revolve around alcohol- clubbing, going to bars and pubs.

What can I do to make friends and socialise if I don't want to consume any alcohol? I want to go to UCL but from what I've heard the social life there revolves around drinking a lot
Join societies or drink cider when around alcohol

I've never had a lecture or supervision on a Wednesday afternoon, and at school games was all Wednesday afternoon. In fact, it would have been just weird to have been inside on a Wednesday afternoon.

Now that I think about it, I always leave college at around one on a Wednesday. Mid-weekday break probably.

Never knew it was so common.

Join a soc but avoid rugby. i find that they are the biggest drinkers.
Oh, go to the gym and meet people there? Maybe gym goers might not be as serious drinkers?

If u make friends at uni but u feel forced to drink around them , then these people are not your friends.
I know loads of people that are not keen drinkers but many they are. u wont be alone, lol

go to clubs with people as that doesn't really matter sober but bars would be so boring, although people might get a bad impression from you when you say you don't drink I think if it was me i would not even mention it

But you say 'kuffar' as if we are wrong to not believe in a religion that doesn't not belong to us. You could easily just say British people and be done with it.
One can not simply separate british people with those who don't believe in Islam, one would then single out 2.5million British people.
