Hi! I'm an international student (non-EU) but I'm planning on applying to a UK university next year. I was wondering if I need to take IETLS if I already have an A* in English (First) Language for IGCSE (CIE). I've also been studying at an english speaking international school since kindergarten.

I've look at some universities requirement (Oxford, LSE, Birmingham, SOAS...) and most seem to be ok with me not taking the IETLS. However, are there any unis that you guys know that won't accept these qualifications? Also would I need to take it to get a student visa?

I am in the same situation, except I am taking IBHL English Lit A. None of my universities seemed to have any problems with me not taking IELTs as long as I get a 5/6 (at least they never said anything in my offers etc...). Are you doing IB?

If you're starting on a degree level course (ie not a foundation) then it's up to the university to verify your english language ability (for lower level courses the UKVI insist on specific IELTS scores for specific courses). That means they can be flexible and accept applicants like yourself without asking for additional qualifications.

It's a straightforward question to ask universities directly if you're worried and want them to clarify their english language requirements.
