private kitchen at uni?

I'm vegan and also a massive hygiene freak (i know i sound like the most annoying person ever) so I would like to be self catered at uni but having stayed in student accommodation and seeing the state of uni shared kitchens i was wondering how hard it is to find accommodation with a private kitchen? i know it differs from uni to uni, if it helps i'm mainly looking at st andrews and ucl
thanks!

Having a kitchen all to yourself in London would be extremely expensive- easily over £10,000 a year and not likely to be covered by a a student loan. Also blocks of studio flats tend to be more anti social halls because people living in them don't tend to have a shared common space to socialise in and they tend to be dominated by international students whose levels of English aren't always great as they are generally the only ones who can afford studios.
What you're looking for is a studio. You'd likely be looking at a 20-25% markup compared to a normal ensuite room, 40% compared to shared.
You can get a studio but they're VERY expensive. Honestly you're better of finding ways to deal with a normal kitchen - e.g. keep your pans in your bedroom and wipe down everything with kitchen cleaner before cooking.
In a shared kitchen you will have a cupboard of your own to keep all your stuff in. You provide all your own pots and pans/utensils, cutlery and plates. No one else will use them - they will have got their own stuff.

And if your hygiene 'thing' really is this bad then you do need to deal with it, and before you go to Uni. Whats next - not using public loos or touching door handles ...?

I know this is really old but can I ask what you decided to do in the end and if you lived alone how did you find it? Thanks :smile:
