The money for this has to come from somewhere and I'm concerned a 3% minimum commitment would compromise spending on other key services (especially health and education).

I absolutely agree our defences must be well funded and in first class condition, but Britain already punches above its weight in terms of annual defence spending. I feel more needs to be done to encourage our fellow NATO members to increase their own spending to share the burden.

Nay, we should commit to NATO but seek to revise spending downwards, not upwards. Pretty sure 3% of government spending < 2% of GDP too.

Also, in the Libers' very first motion they managed to write something contradictory to Liber philosophy?
The first priority of any government is to defend its citizens and homeland from external threats. The Libertarian Party is committed to our allies in NATO and furthering cooperation to advance a peaceful, democratic world.

This level of defence spending is only even close to justified for interventionist policy.

    Hear, hear!

The traitorous left all hate our veterans and would gladly have the heros that fight for this country do so with poor, underfunded equipment and resources.

In fact, the Deputy Prime Minister openly supports a terrorist organisation that illegally murdered British soldiers.
Given the armed forces have especially gone down hill, in real life, over the past six years, with new recruits having to spend more and more money on their own gear that they /need/ to have, and more and more money on decent food, and increasingly live in more and more cramped, damp conditions that we would deem unsuitable if it was social housing or housing on the market. This is hardly the 'traitorous left' but the incompetent right who let down all but those at the top of the armed forces, from the moment they join the military, right up to their retirement, for whatever reason, from the military.
