    Your not sister I have cousins that accepted 500 pound mehr they didn't care they just wanted to get married to the 1 they loved. You shouldn't make marriage difficult.

    She worded it wrong. That plus preconceived notions about Islam might make you think that men are buying women.

    It's actually money that is paid TO the woman, for her personal use. It's similar to a dowry, but it's compulsory and has to be paid at the time of marriage. There's many reasons for it, but they should be pretty obvious.

    £500?! My wife gonna be happy with me, maybe i'll give her a snickers bar if she lucky. Tbh she should be paying mahr to me coz she gonna be blessed having me as a husband. Same goes for all four of them.
