I was wondering whether it is a good thing to acclaim the company that you have had experience at in an application question. It seems to make the statement sound more impactful but at the same time could be seen as irrelevant.

    For example:

"I recently completed a X programme with X company; one of the world’s leading project and development companies, which focussed on learning X. "

It's fine to 'boast' about a prestigious company/organisation etc, but the boast is weakened if you have to do any further explanation. If the value is meaningful to the reader, it is likely to be known to the reader, and therefore needs nothing further to be said. That may not always be the case, but if you think not, make sure the additional information is relevant to the reader.
