I need to film a scene of my A2 Media production in the Costa in my town. Will I need to ask permission from someone there or should I just try to go ahead without asking? I don't want to end up in an embarrassing situation like getting kicked out or something. I'll be buying drinks whilst we're in there so that factor shouldn't be an issue. Any advice?

I think the thing here is that you're suggesting you do it in a coffee shop. You would need to seek permission from the landlord (Costa) to do this plus anone who will appear in shot, however briefly, and I think it highly unlikely that s/he will give you permission. Most people do not want to appear on film, particularly when they've just gone to have a quiet coffee with friends, so perhaps it might be an idea to rethink this.

Provided that you sit in a corner of the coffee shop you won't get anybody else in the shot apart from your actors. I'm sure that the Costa staff will allow you to do your filming as long as you do not cause too much trouble for the other customers. Basically as long as you're not a nuisance then I wouldn't see an issue with this, but make sure to ask since you will be filming on private property. Me and my media group always formally emailed places when we wanted to film stuff, and 9/10 times the places we asked were fine with it as long as we film and act appropriately.

Get permission. might be worth suggesting that you'll do it at a quiet time.

The plan was to sit in a corner and angle the camera in such a way that it would avoid getting anyone else in the shot, and I know some other people doing Film Studies who filmed in there so I'll ask them for contact details, I'll check with my teacher too. Thanks for the help!
