For what values of k does (x-1)²(x+2) = k have exactly on root.

Plot the cubic graph (x-1)^2(x+2). Now plot the line y=k for various k's. For what k, does there exist only one intersection between the two?

So do you mean a vertical line through x=0?

No...? I mean a horizontal line y = k for various values of k.
