Bad areas in Aberdeen?

Hi,

I'm planning on moving to Aberdeen in the coming weeks, specially to Balnagask road and I'm wondering how bad of a place Torry really is. Like most poor areas you hear horror stories but as somebody who lived in a bad street in Peterhead it was nowhere near as bad as people made it out to be. Is Torry bad via overblown reputation or is there truth to it? How is the Balnagask road area and other areas within it?
What are some areas to avoid in aberdeen?
I don't think you need to avoid any areas in Aberdeen, unless you have a requirement whereby you cannot be seen around "peasants" or something.

Torry is a very cheap place to live and I could only wish that it was nearer to the uni to make it worth living there. By all accounts previously a few years ago it was a little rough but its largely fine now. There isnt a place in Aberdeen I wouldnt go to really, its not intimidating at all.

Aberdeen is just so expensive and the properties reflect that so much that on the odd occasion you find yourself in a neighbourhood which isnt as affluent, and reflects "normal" society, you might think you're in a place you shouldnt be. Its fine.
I have friends that have a flat on Balnagask Road and they've been there since the beginning of second year (they're now coming to the end of third year). They haven't had any problems with it, it's mainly families nearby so there aren't any issues.
You're lucky that you're not asking this questions back in the '90s!
I just asked my dad who apparently sofa surfed through Aberdeen about 30 years ago lol (he's Scottish but born and raised in Dumbiedykes, Edinburgh) He says Torry and Northfield are bad, and Woodside has a lotta smack heds, and Tillydrone has a lotta murky council estates. Ere ya go laddy :yy:

everywhere was a **** hole back then lol before crackdowns on the drug trade and rundown estates, but it's still bad
