My parents are seperated - they have been since 2005 but they are still technically married. I live with my Mum and she can't afford to divorce my Dad and we dont know where he is anyway so we can't contact him. My older brother lives at home and works so Mum doesnt get the 25% council tax discount. How else can we prove my Dad doesnt live with us - and
Do I have to include my brothers income in 'household' income?

    thanks

The evidence that SFE ask for is:

    • Decree absolute/Decree Nisi, OR
    • Dissolution order, OR
    • A letter from their solicitor confirming their status.

It's likely that the last option there might be the best one (but wouldn't be free) - it might be worth ringing SFE directly to ask if they'd accept something similar to the proof they take for estrangement (a letter from a teacher or social worker confirming that you haven't had contact)

Your brothers income wouldn't count (as he isn't dependent on your mum) - did your mum ever get the 25% discount?
