Ridiculously so! The chocolate companies have blown it up into this huge cultural phenomenon. Women are expected to give their male family members, classmates, coworkers, etc, chocolate. It's called obligation chocolate.

Then there is friends chocolate, which a lot of girls will do with their mates. After that there is love chocolate which is seen as a chance for girls to confess to a boy they like. You're also meant to give it to your boyfriend.

Then a month later, on March 14th there is White Day. This is where males return the favour. Marshmallows, white chocolate, handkerchiefs etc are super popular because the gift is meant to be white. Originally it was a way in which the men reciprocated their feelings. But now, just like valentines day, it's commercialised.
Omg i love Japan maaaaan. Sounds like just the place for me. Learning abit more japanese in the mean time. Lol,I used to take lessons from the NHK channel (nihongo quick lessons)

Nothing, as usual - I've never been with anyone long enough to have Valentine's Day plans with them.

Last year I spent so much money on gifts on Valentine’s Day, only to break up with my boyfriend a few weeks later. This year I’ll definitely being saving my money and staying in with the girls!
