    Two capacitors of capacitance C1 = 500 nF and C2 = 1.5 μF are connected in series across a cell with emf V = 8V.
    What is the energy stored on C1?

    You know that the charge on each capacitor in series is equal. So the total charge is equal to the charge on C_1 and C_2 so Q_T=Q_1=Q_2

    You have your e.m.f (total voltage) and total capacitance (use the equation to work out the total capacitance in series).

    Use Q_T=C_T V_T which will give you your total charge as well as the charge on C_1 (and C_2).

    Use  W = \frac{1}{2} \cdot \frac{Q^2}{C}

    I did not use the two other energy equations because they involve voltage and in series, the voltage across C_1 and C_2 capacitors are different so it would be a longer process.
