So, I did my Ucas application this year. I do the IB program and I have Physics Math and Econ HL and 2 Languages and Chemistry SL. I want to study civil engineering. The universities I applied are Bath, Bristol, Edinburgh , Manchester and Surrey (but for sure i don’t want to study there). I got offers from all 5 unis. From Bath it was 7,6,6 at my HL and 36 overall, from Bristol 6,6 Math and Physics HL and 18 at my HL and overall 38, from Edinburgh 5,5,5 at my HL and 32 overall, from Manchester 6,6 Math and Physics and 32 overall and from Surrey 6 in Maths or Physics at HL and a 34 overall.

What university do you advise me to have for firm and safety.

Concerning my preferences I want to study in a big city, with a lot of out of collage opportunities, with a lot of unions-clubs, night life But also to graduate and have a good degree.

(I have talk also to other people and all of them are against Manchester by I/ they do not know why, do you have any ideas?)

Could you help me saying the advantages and the disadvantages of these unis?

From your description, I would think that Manchester and Edinburgh would be the universities that are the best fit for you.

One thing I would suggest is looking at all the courses and specific modules you can take in each university. Make sure the courses are ones that you would want to take and the structure is something that you are comfortable with. Another thing to consider is that English universities are three year degrees and Scottish universities ate 4 year degrees. Remember the course is the most important because you are in university to get an education after all.

In terms of why your friends would be against Manchester, I do not know. Perhaps it could be down to personal preference. But I understand what you mean. Before I researched my universities heavily, I had the misnomer as well that University of Manchester was not a great university and I shouldn't apply there. After conducting more research I realised that Manchester has a vibrant student community, with great faculty and courses. So Manchester became one of my choices. Don't listen to what your friends say, do your own research and come to your own conclusions.

Remember that you don't have to decide right now, you still have a couple of months to think about this. Don't be so eager to choose your firm and insurance options because you might regret this on a later date.

Hope this helps and good luck.

LOTS of advice here about Choosing Firm and Insurance : https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/con...urance-choices

And about What Can Happen on Results Day : https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/con...el-results-day

Read it all carefully. Remember you have until early May to make this decision - and that its final, so make sure you are certain about your choices before you press the button.
