The birds sing our serenade

I re-plait your golden braid
And head back on track

Together we venture
Holding hands as we do
On a secret adventure
Alone, just us two

Then tragedy struck
Just before we reached home
A sudden squeal of tires
And inside a faint moan

The car toppled sideways
As it mounted the kerb
Then spun itself endways
With the slightest reverb

I screamed out in panic
And it missed me by luck
But as for my sister
Squarely she's struck

I cradle her head
And press hard on her chest
But the pavement runs red
And she slips off to rest

I kneel there crying
'til they lead me away
Wish I were dying
That it'd be me who'd decay

Alone in the graveyard
I take time to reflect
And realise for her
I mustn't stay wrecked

The roses now wilted
The violets forlorn
Today marks the end
Of the time when I mourn
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I am me
Who are you
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I should sleep
But so should you
