    Hi all,

I'm approaching the end of my course. I'm studying web development and I'm expecting a 2.1 at the minimum for my degree.

I'm a bit concerned that I won't be able to find a career once I've graduated. I've been emailing a few agencies in Manchester to see if they offer any graduate roles however none have got back to me. Majority of the roles I look for on job websites require 2+ years experience, which obviously I don't have.

Another thing is, what should I expect as a starting salary that's realistic? I've seen a few IT jobs offering 18-20k starting but surely this isn't right for a grad?

    Looking forward to the replies,

It's going to be incredibly difficult to get into work with little experience, you should do a year of placement with a company, voluntary if necessary.

Also there are many different types of web development are you going to be front-end, back-end or programming web applications?

Sorry, forgot to mention. I'm looking at front end roles only. I've applied for a few jobs today so let's hope I hear something.

20k-25k for a graduate with the right company, freelance is also an option which could boost your earnings if you are an exceptionally skilled dev, especially if you can give yourself a professional image and get returning customers.

Did you do internships or a year in industry to gain experience during your degree?

Have you maintained a portfolio of work even if it's hobbyist or side jobs for friends and family?

Are you only looking on mainstream job websites or graduate program sites?
