I'm not a big fan, and my boyfriend claims to hate it, but it is the date he asked me out. We celebrate for the latter.
Did your boyfriend asking you out have anything to do with the fact that it was valentine's day by any chance?

    Certainly seems like you care.
I dont care if couples want to celebrate. I just wish the rest of us were left alone with it.

Of course! He has since admitted he regrets picking that date. Apparently he'd originally chosen New Year's Day but chickened out last minute.

Not really, you mention Valentine's day in particular as a, and I quote; "It's a meaningless commercial holiday." When your same criteria could be applied to pretty much all holidays. If you really didn't care about it you wouldn't be creating a thread to moan, either that or you'd be complaining equally. :dontknow:

Lol. So you're obliged to celebrate every year a day which you claim he hates.
Oh well. I hope you have fun.

At least Christmas has an underlying message of generosity and spending time with family. Easter is a religious holiday, i get that though im an atheist myself. Like I said I don't care if couples want to celebrate. But to those not in a relationship what is the purpose of valentine's day? None whatsoever. That won't stop it being rammed down our throats of course.

To those whose mothers are dead, what is the purpose of Mothers' Day? And that one is highly "commercialized". What about Christmas for people who have no family?

Tbh you just sound bitter that you don't have Benedict Cumberbatch to celebrate it with. :dontknow:

If it bothers you so much that it's "rammed down your throat" (though no much more than all the other holidays imo) why not get some friends together and get drunk/watch a movie/play monopoly or something?

Wow, what a spiteful comment. I wonder what I said to you to deserve it. Why are you being so argumentative? Why does it bother you that much that I hate valentine's day?
I guess you're just a rude ill mannered person.

I don't like it purely because I'll be forever alone XD

I don't mind others celebrating it though

That's one way of not answering the legitimate arguments I made. I even gave you advice on how to enjoy this valentine's day without Benedict.

Then again, I forgot it's you, you never take advice offered in any of your threads.

Guys - can we cool it a bit please? Difference of opinion is fine and to be expected, but let's be respectful to both sides. As some people would say…

    It's not that deep.
    (never saying that again)

    Thanks

I didn't see any legitimate arguments, just a stupid, childish remark.
You could always use Valentine's day to work on your reading comprehension?

This is my legitimate argument about how Valentine's day is really not so different from all the other X days.

Each to their own but with Valentines day you shouldn't just use that to declare your love to your partner, you should be doing that all year round. Not against Valentines day though mind you.

My reading comprehension is fine thanks. Though you conveniently omitted your petulant comment about Cumberbatch. You can't ridicule and insult someone and then expect them to listen to your advice.

I really don't think so. You said:

So I quoted the bit where I gave you a legitimate argument.

So in other words you're annoyed that there's a commercialised holiday out there that doesn't cater specifically for you?
