Architecture Applicants who DONT do Art A level

Just wondering if there were many people around who don't do Art at college and I guess who aren't overtly-artistic, but who still want to be architects?

It's these people who I see myself having the advantage over for applying to UCL

But maybe with all their history and stuff (I do Art, Double Maths, and Physics - pretty standard stuff right?) theyre a lot better at essays and so more suited to the Cambridge Course?

Well it also depends a lot on the quality of your personal statement, reference, grades etc. However, if you're not good at art then chances are you won't get into ucl. But most applicants will be fairly decent, or good at art. n_n

Well I'm not going to Cambridge or UCL. But I didn't do A Level Art.
I did Biology, Chemistry and Physics and took a gap year to work in an architectural practice.

Aristotles is right - you getting is in dependant on a good personal statement, experience and grades + of course if you are artsy then it will be great benefit for you. Then again, there are quite a lot of people on my course right now who didn't do Art at A level and still got on the course.

I am also like you, dont do art but I have started building up a portfolio and I am so annoyed that I did not do art because it seems so fun!

i remember going to nottingham open day .. the tutor actually shouted out .. if you don't do art .. don't wast your time applying here ...

she give me a really bad impression ....eww ...

I didn't like the Nottingham open day haha the guy giving the lecture looked really depressed, yet was boasting on about how good their architecture department was and how there was a mix-up on the league tables putting them at #11 when they should be up at #5...lol

yeah .. i remember that .. but similarly when i went to Cambridge, the guy there said there is never enough funding, yet they reject 90% of the applicants.. and they think is because the whole cambridge department is just not good enough ...

but any way .. nottingham gave me BBB offer already .. so i'm pleased

BBB for k100? They must have really liked you then. :p: I remember the tutor there also said that an offer would usually be nothing less than AAA.

Reply 11

i think they like my cash .. the condition was ... BBB for international fee status .. so .. i think the international is the big star in the sentence

Reply 12

Are you an international student then? I don't think they're only money-eating machines. lol

Reply 13

I'm Chinese, getting PR in march next year.. so i might be able to change my fee statures when i get to uni .... the problem is .. can i ?

Reply 14

I'm not sure lol, perhaps if you consult with the uni about it then maybe, but right now you can't change the fee status on your ucas form (unless it's been less than 14 days since submission) so you'd be best off contacting the uni once you know where you're going and hopefully they'll allow you to change it.

Reply 15

yeah .. i mean .. it's about 9k difference each year, not including other fees such as paper .. and materials .. and living costs .. etc

wait so... notts offered you BBB because you're paying more?

Reply 17

Very likely. Don't forget that all UK universities have limits on the amount of UK students they can admit, because they are all subsidised by the taxpayer, whereas they can admit as many international students who pay for their own education as they like.

might be ....... the case ....

I'm Swedish (so technically should be considered as an International student), but thing is I've lived in England for the past 5 years now. Therefore, I don't pay the international fee. Though would I still benefit from that "windfall" and their favouritism towards international applicants? :p:
