You could phone them up or ask the uni when you get there. I've just got my offers for my placement course but i know that if you did the straight 3 yr course, up until your second year you have the option to change the course at most universities. because its the same course just with another year added, you don't miss any content good luck!

    Yes phone them up

Ideally get the change made before you apply for student finance - it's better to start on a 4 year course (and maybe swap to a 3 year course if you decide you don't want the placement year) than to start on a 3 year course and then a year or so in tell student finance you'll want an extra year's funding.

Thanks , does he need to do anything where he logs into ucas or just phone the uni and they change the course ? Do you think they have different quotas to accept people on the 3 and 4 years courses or is it just the same if he gets the grades required ?

They can change the course on their end and it'll show on UCAS track.

I couldn't say about quotas - some courses do have limits on placements available but the only way to know is to ring them
