Hi. Whilst searching through various websites, prospectus's and uni stuff, I have decided that I would like to do a course that contains a year abroad. Hopefully I will be doing a course in either Computing, Physics, Maths or a mixture of them.
However, on the course specifications I have looked at, it seems that a B grade or above at GCSE in a Modern Language is required. My problem being that I (stupidly) did not take French up to GCSE level. The only other language qualification I have is, apart from English, an A grade in Welsh Language, although I am pretty sure that it does not count as a modern language.
I am thinking about taking a course in Spanish at a local college, alongside normal Year 13 work, in order to give me some grounding, as it does say that there is some leeway for students who show they are willing to learn a language from scratch.

Any advice/info would be a great help. Thanks.

Search for one of the Unis that offers years out to America/Australia/(Other english speaking places)

Someone I know from Durham has just returned from her year out in California. She is reading Geological Sciences

or see if the uni you are attending allows student to do a language either as part of the course or as an aditional subject.

Doing the Spanish at college sounds good too.

WHy wouldn't a GCSE in Welsh be counted as a modern language?
