Aims
In this lab session you will investigate the heat transfer coefficient for a glass test tube in a beaker of water.

Theory
In many industrial applications, we are concerned with the flow of heat between two separated fluids, with an intervening solid interface. The heat transfer can be measured as follows:
𝑄 = 𝑈𝐴∆𝑇 Eq (1)
where Q is the rate of heat transfer in W, U is the overall heat transfer coefficient in W m-2°C -1, A is the surface area for heat transfer in m2 and ΔT is the temperature difference (or driving force) in °C.

The total energy required to heat up a known mass of water is given by:
