so you can't play any games on any of the college's networks during your first year accommodation? weak.

Not externally atm, you can play itnernally. It'll be the same anywhere you go though I think, as it's a condition of JANET (the UK university network).

Hi sorry, I posted this question as a separate thread in this forum earlier.

Anyone here from St Marys, St Aidans or Van Mildert here? Just wondering if you can give me any opinions on those 3 colleges.

I'm swapping colleges from Collingwood (really didn't the college when I went on the Open Day- too big) and those 3 have offered me a place at their colleges.

Any replies would be appreciated

Van Mildert is one of the bigger colleges, just so you're aware.

How hard is it to swap colleges? All it is, is that I am thinking about travelling to Durham every day, rather than paying for accomoation, simply because I don't live that far away. I had a applie to JB college, but I understand that if I lived away, I woul have to be part of St Cuths, any advice?

Contact Butler and ask. I'm not sure what the rules are with regard to whether or not you have to live in college in first year, but they'll be able to tell you and advise you accordingly as to what you should do.

I was talking to the officery bloke for local students on the Cuths open day, and it's not too uncommon. He did distract me from my tour though :p:
On what date and that does the freshers week start? Or rather, what date would freshers start arriving, moving in, etc. I can't find it on the website.

I think it's the 4th Oct.

the Saturday or Sunday before the beginning of term depending on your college - so 3rd or 4th Oct

Accomodation question. When do you get the accomodation applications and are rooms given out on a first come first served basis?

Also, roughly how much would it cost for an en-suite room at Brooks house, parsons field?

accommodation is dealt with after results day.
there's a price list somewhere on the internet, and there are links to it somewhere in tsr if you search for it.
and there's no difference in cost between en-suite and not en-suite unless one is catered and the other isn't.

#Bailey Fully Catered
#Returning Students (29 weeks)… £4275 First Year students (29.3 weeks)...£4347
#Bailey Part Catered
#Returning Students (33 weeks)… £4410 First Year students (33.3 weeks)...£4485
#Brooks House self catered en-suite
#Returning Students (38 weeks)… £3867 First Year students (38.3 weeks) ..£4737
#Parsons Field - Self catered standard let
#First Year students (38.3 weeks)...£3630
#Returning Students (38 weeks)… £4429

The difference for an en-suite is £300 or something it says there (assuming they've got first years and returning the wrong way around).

Thanks for the help guys.
How come first years have to pay more and how come the difference for accomodation in the bailey is less than 100 and for PF it's so big?

Only reason I can think of is, first years get rooms first so if returning students get a room in the first place it's because it's unwanted, so they reduce the prices to interest them.

- are there any self catering options whatsoever? the dining hall is fine by me as im lazy when it comes to cooking, but i do like the odd snack.

I was on the collingwood open day, and on my floor there was a little area for making snacks...like a toaster and things like that. :woo:

^Oh yeah, same on my floor.

First years pay more because the first term is longer for them because of fresher's week.

But almost 1000 pounds, just for fresher's week? That really doesn't make sense...
