What rooms are they? Ask your freshers rep! :smile:

You basically just need to know which building it is then when you get there there will be signs to the main lecture theatres. The key ones to know are:

ER = Elvet Riverside
PH = Physics
CG/CY = Chemistry
M = Maths
W = Geography
E = Engineering
D = Dawson building (Archaeology)

Erm there are more but I can't really think of any of them! :redface:

And yes, lectures always start on the Thursday of Freshers week :smile:

I thought you were! :p:

What rooms are they? You could always ask your mates...?

Reply 204

The rooms are:
D/L50
D/CLC013

So I guess these are in the Dawson Building? Where is the Dawson Building :redface:! Thanks for the help.

Reply 205

There's some information on rooms here. I do know L50 is Psychology, the other one I haven't heard of. And the 'D/' bit just means it's in Durham, as opposed to 'S/' which means it is in Stockton :wink:

CLC is the new building opened this week, now known as 'the biscuit barrell' which may help you recognise it.

I'm connected in my room but thunderbird(e-mail) and msn messenger isn't working so I think I need to know which ports I can use.
Then I can't ping external sites, is that blocked coz it sucks.

Reply 207

CLC? What does that stand for? :confused: I'm gutted that the fancy new building opens as soon as I've graduated :frown: And that they're building a cool little Geography building too just after I leave!!! :rolleyes:

And yeah - L50 is the Psychology at the top of cardiac hill (yippee)

I've registered! Also the Al Qasimi is a 20 minute walk from Hatfield, I'm going to get fit this term walking to tutorials.

The new Geography building is very swish I must say.

What's the Al Qasimi? :confused:

And the new Geography building hasn't been built yet has it - it's still just big steel rods and all that. Do you mean the new lecture theatre complex right in the middle of the science site?

I mean the new lecture theatre that has "Department of Geography" written all over, hence my assumption! It's got coloured glass and is apparently called the Calman Learning Centre which made me laugh.

The Al Qasimi building is the funny shaped one below Aidan's and across the road from Trevs. It's now one of the homes of the School of Government and International Affairs(which is the Middle Eastern Studies department and Politics stuck together), the second one being South End House(formely the House of Sport) which is opposite Collingwood.

I haven't got a clue about these codes for my lectures and seminars, I take it D means Durham but where is EH?

Reply 211

Oh I didn't know the new building had "Department of Geography" all over it, haha awesome! It's just a load of lecture theatres isn't it? Glad that Geography claimed it :biggrin:

And yeah I know the Al Qasimi building - it used to be called something else though didn't it? Not sure, ah well!

And EH - errrm, I'd guess it was Elvet something, but can't say really! Elvet House? Elvet Hall? :confused:

thoughts on Grey college? sending application tomorrow hopefully. Thanks

Reply 213

You should all be language students because then it's easy - all your lectures are in Elvet Riverside :biggrin:
Thing which is a bit **** - I have a 9am and a 5.15 on a thursday. :hmpf:

Reply 214

EH I think is Elvet House, i had somewhere a code to all the keys.

I have fun with codes as in Computer Science they use two letter college codes, so I'm from CS(cuths) doing CS.

Reply 215

EH is Elvet Hill House, which is near the Oriental Museum (i.e. up the hill)
According to Sharry Borgan.

How late does it have to be before you can beat your upstairs neighbours to death with their overly loud sound system? What is the etiquette on this?

Ah yes, the memories all come flooding back. However, I must add that for my experiences, it tended to begin at 2am when they all got back from clubbing. And go on until 4am.

Then I would be up at 6.30am to go rowing. Sigh :frown:
