[QUOTE='Flo[ProActiv]']Yeah, I got mine in my Mildert pack.
Do you think we should return it anyway, or wait until we get there?

I think you are meant to return it now and then take your medical card up with you for when you register up there

Hello.
I'm looking at choosing a college but I've been told Hatfield has a reputation for rahs which worries me a bit..
I'm looking at Hatfield, St. John's or St. Chad's. Can someone tell me their honest opinion of each and anything that is particularly important to know about any of them? thank you

I stayed at St John's (as a B&B) and was told that as a uni college it is "a big family, and sort of college"
it did seem like it would be really friendly, but i was a little freaked out by the giant picture of jesus looking very much in pain on the main staircase

Don't really know anything about the other two (except hatfield = rahs), although i heard chad's has a reputation for beer and rugby? Not sure how true that is though

i've actually gone with St. John's so far - obvs I can change my mind up until I send my UCAS application off  I'm kind of thinking it would probably be better not to visit because I'm jsut going to end up liking them all! That's what happened when I visited unis too!
I am going to apply to Durham this September. My alevel are Maths,Further Maths, Economics and Accounting. I know that some unis dont like students studying acc. Is that the same to Uni of Durham ???

Besides, I dont know which college to apply to :frown: plz give me some advice ???

for the campus cards we have to upload a photo of us to recive our cards on arrival. Is their anywhere i can sent a passport photo of me, rather than uploading a photo, before we arrive? thanks for any help.
I don't think so. If you don't have a scanner just take a photo of it with a digital camera and then upload it :dontknow:

You could try emailing the ITS ( techie guys) [email protected] and asking them? I'm sure they'll try to be flexible
Hey, has anyone else not had the email back from durham yet?

I go to Hatfield, I was in your postion last year, really nervous about what it would be like and who I'd meet there. I hadn't read anything about it before I applied there so i was finding out about the Rah problem in the weeks leading up to going there (not the most reassuring sequence of events). When I got there i looked around for Rahs, and found none of them, well a few but they are in a minority so small as to be negligible, and even if there are rahs in your year, where is it written that you have to associate with them? I got through it just fine. There are Rahs at every college, though there are more at some colleges than at others (from the people I met last year there are a lot in Hild Bede (but of course, I might just have been unlucky and anyway, HildBede is massive). Hatfield is an incredible college if you want to feel like you're part of something bigger than yourself. The spirit of the place is tangible (the jibes from other colleges just make you feel even closer to the Hatfielders by your side) Yes we have a reputation as a raucous college (we're not allowed on Palace Green on Matriculation day). But we take pleasure in that, there's no fun in playing by the rules all the time. John's and Chads I can tell you a little bit about aswell. John's is highly religious, I speak with no sense of hyperbole here, it is the most religious of all the colleges, no bad thing in itself unless like me, you're an atheist in which case it's either awful or a chance to debate metaphysics all day. It has a quaint little bar underground that makes you feel like a Borrower but it does make up for this by having the best college drink in the university (a tripod). Chad's is rather like a tamer version of Hatfield, the buildings are beautiful to live in and it has a great college spirit aswell but if you don't like green then it's best to stay away. The most important thing is that you want to live on the Bailey (meaning easy access to town and, most importantly, Klute).
Are you any the colleges particularly politically active?

Also, what is the accommodation in St. Chad's and Hatfield like?

And I quite like Trevs but it seems a trek to the Law department :frown: .. does it take long? Is anyone doing law at Trevs?

Taaanks :awesome:

Politics is more of a university thing, there are active Conservative and Labour societies, and a slightly less active Lib Dem one (though they do their best bless 'em) I'm not aware of many/any others, but if you have something specific you're interested in I can let you know what I do know.

oh, and the union society of course. Nearly forgot about that :colondollar:

and nowhere in Durham is a trek. fr browne who hangs around in the trevs thread sometimes does law at trevs, and he's something high up in the college this year too. Can't remember what though.

Ah thanks a lot! How is the accommodation where you are staying at (and which college?)? And about the specifics: how about Middle Eastern politics? :ninja:

I'm at Aidan's, accommodation was pretty lovely in first year. I live out this year though.

and I don't know anything much about that. Take a look on the DSU website, there may be a society :dontknow:
Hi there

I missed my offer this year to study Sociology by 4ums marks in History, I was just wondering if any student got in second time round after missing the previous year?

If soo did you ring the department before going through your second ucas application!

I got in through reapplying, but that was from not getting an offer pre-results, then getting an offer when I applied the second time during a gap year. Guess that's a bit different since I went from predicted grades to achieved grades, but I'd definitely give the department a ring (or an email) if I were you, just to see their stance on it. So were your achieved grades lower than the usual asking grades or not? (ie. if it says AAA and you got AAB, you might not have much of a chance, but if it says AAB-AAA and they gave you an offer of AAA which you missed, you'd still have a chance of getting in if you'd acheieved AAB.) Hope that made some sense...:o:
If any freshers/returning students are interested in American Football, the Durham Uni team is looking to recruit you this season!

We are entering our 3rd year in the British Universities American Football League this year, after being one of the most successful new teams in the league, culminating in reaching the playoffs earlier this year.

Size, speed, strength is not an issue, as no matter what skills and attributes you possess, American Football has a position for you! (although if there are any big guys out there , please get in touch - we need linemen!)

If any of you are interested, please either send me a message, reply to the thread or go here

cheers!

the entry requirements are ABB-BBB and i got ABC but I am retaking the one module which resulted in me missing my offer by 4ums marks.......so yeah i think ill give the department a ring, my head of 6th form has already said he will mention my bad luck in my one module, and of course i will talk about it either over the phone or in an e-mail! Ill make sure I get some feedback of the Uni before I apply!

Thanks for your help anyway
