Ah thanks a lot! How is the accommodation where you are staying at (and which college?)? And about the specifics: how about Middle Eastern politics? :ninja:

If you mean the department, its pretty hopeless.

When do you have to pay for your accomodation and how is it done? I know it is done in 3 payments throughout the year...but when in each term? Do you just have to fill in forms and the college takes the money out of your account?

EDIT - also, when does term end? on my letter from college it says 19th December, but here it says 16th. Does this mean that term ends on the 16th, but I have till the 19th to get out of college?

At Castle, the first bill is due 4 weeks into the term, and the second and third are due two weeks into term.

Not sure about the term dates question...

Ah thanks...that's fine then if my college is the same.
I love American Football, although I've never actually played before :p: Any space for a complete novice?
Yeah of course!

99% of us had never played before joining the Saints, so you'll be fine! any idea what position you would want to play?
This is completly irrelevent to my application as I'm going to Collingwood...but if you're in a Bailey college, how do you get there on the moving in day? Wouldn't the street around the college be jam packed with other freshers for your college and other colleges?

Just wondering.

They're doing like a timing thing where you have a one hour slot (or myabe 30 mins, can't remember exactly how long) where you're allowed to park there to unload your stuff, then you've gotta move your car to park in one of the big carparks so you can go back to unpack your stuff into your room. Sounds like it's gonna be buuuusy though! Police are involved etc as well to make it all run smoothly apparently.

Fair enough.

Whatever timing thing they do, it's always a ******* nightmare and to be avoided.

Beware the Bailey at the beginning of term - you will probably very nearly be run over by a frustrated parent in an obnoxiously large car.
Well, I'm about 5'10" and thinly built, so definitely not a lineman haha :p: Possibly a kicker/punter or a receiver, but I have no idea how good I'd be in those positions

That'll be my dad then.......

Actually, our car's not that obnoxiously large, it's only a VW Sharan.

Here's a silly question for anyone who is in Collingwood college. Is there a general colour scheme to the rooms ha? I want to start preparing my university stuff like bedding etc and I know that on the open day my room was like a yellow/cream colour and just wondering is this throughout the whole college?

Bailey on coming-up weekend is hellish. They do stagger arrivals slightly though, I think; Cuth's and Grey usually come up on the Saturday, and the rest on the Sunday.

Yep, Cuth's get an extra day of fresher's week. Of course it's irrelevant to me, I won't be on the bailey :p:

Also, what is the accommodation in St. Chad's and Hatfield like?

At Chad's, the buildings are mostly Georgian (I think) or in that style (sash windows, high ceilings, etc). The vast majority of freshers share a room with another person, and although there's a sink in every bedroom, toilets and showers are communal. Because Chad's is made up of a few different old, converted houses that weren't specifically built to house students, the accommodation is pretty variable - some rooms are huge, some not so much. Everything is usually in reasonable nick, but obviously since it's student accommodation some bits are a tad... dingy. It's pot luck as to how nice your room is, and you won't know how lucky you've been until you get there.

Usually colleges give you until the weekend after term ends to move out, i.e. regardless of whether term ends on Wednesday (16th Dec, for example) or it ends on Friday (19th March, for example), you have to leave by Saturday morning. Although usually you can stay longer if you're willing to pay.

Hi there!

I'm Alex, the Social Sec for Collignwood this year - great to ahve you on board...feel free to add me on fb ...just search "Alex Severn"... if you have any questions.

Re colour schemes in college - the walls in every room are the same yellow/ cream colour that you describe. The carpets are a kind of browny colour, and the curtains are either burgundy or sea green type of colour.

However, you can pretty much get any kind of bedding / soft furnishings because most colours go with the decor.

Also, make sure you bring loads of photos/ posters to cover the walls with to personalise your room - althought there will be tonnes to buy at the freshers fair!

Hope this helps,

Alex xxx

Just thought I'd ask this quick query here before I took this any further.

Basically due to start at Durham in October, thing is, the college that I am with expects 1st years to stay in Halls, and initially that was what I wanted to do. The thing is I've kinda changed my mind, I live pretty locally and can get to the Uni in 30 - 40 mins, so from a financial stand point, it makes sense for me to stay home. Getting to the point of this, is it easy to transfer college, I undertsand that people who live out have to be in St. Cuths college?

Anyone got any advice on this. I understand its easier for people to "fit in" when they are in Halls, but I've really thought about this, and the financial aspects is quite important to me.
