I've been looking into using an email client to access my new Durham email account. I've tried Thunderbird and been following the instructions to the letter, but doesn't seem to want to work. Anybody have any experience with using an email client, or do you just use the website?

Thanks very much

I would also like to know this, especially when im on my phone.

Before you start using IMAP, you have to request for support to be added to your account - you also need to note that ITS will not help you with this!

You can request IMAP support to be added to your account following this link:
http://www.dur.ac.uk/its/email/exchange/eximap/

Then follow these steps to add it to your client:
http://www.dur.ac.uk/its/email/exchange/eximap/configuring-clients/

No problems - Use your existing username you use for DUO and ITS.

If these forms just require an address for you, put down your college - your room number isn't important. It'll be pigeonholed by surname anyway.
Hello,
I want to apply to do single Honours at History, have been on departmental day and stayed at the castle- loved it, and am desperate for an offer being my first choice... However, I may be applying to Cambridge, College encouraging me to because of my grades at AS being good- but I am worried if I apply they may discriminate against me for being an oxbridge applicant, with A*AAA predictions at A2 and sending it off early- and think I regard them as sloppy seconds- so they may not give me an offer for this reason.

How many students here applied to oxbridge but still got a Durham offer?

I know they 'say' on their website they don't discriminate, but I am weary of trusting this.

Thanks

Durham didn't get to be one of the most well respected universities in the country by turning down the brightest applicants. They have no reason to discriminate.

1. They don't know if you're applying to oxbridge
2. you can add Durham as a choice on the 16th Oct on ucas if you really want to
3. If they auto-rejected everyone who applied to oxbridge they'd have about 50 applicants
4. Durham's got a reputation for being an oxbridge reject uni....you can't have it both ways!
AAB predictions (although I know I can get an A in the 3rd, teacher is just being a prick), any chance of an offer for Politics considering the standard offer is AAA, or has that pretty much automatically ruled me out?

Secondly, which is generally "easier" to get an offer from: Straight politics or Politics and Philosophy ?

What am I supposed to enter for term time accomodation: College - University Owned or University Owned Self Catering ?

I'll be staying at Stephenson college Self catering so its the second one?

Hi - I'm not sure but if you're living in college then I think it should be the 1st one. I think the 2nd one would be if you lived in a uni house wasn't actually "living in" - I know the uni used to own some houses for postgrads which were dotted around the city and not collegiate accommodation.

Makes sense. Now I just need someone else to confirm this. Anyone?

I can agree that the answer is probably correct, but probably nobody except the University can actually confirm it. Why not just ring them?

Vodafone is pretty decent. Orange, not-so-great. Not sure about the others.

Vodafone is good, I rarely have issues with them apart from in college bars where no one gets signal.

Does anyone have a mini-fridge in their room? Are these allowed or not? I know it will probably differ from college to college but most people I know at uni have a mini-fridge which they can hold a bottle of milk in or something like that.

They are certainly allowed in some colleges. I'm not sure if any of them specifically restrict their usage. Ringing the college is probably the easiest way to know for sure.

You'll probably have a communal fridge, and nobody steals your milk if you put green food colouring in it
