Hi there :-)

I'm starting Durham University in September as a mature student (however I would just like to point out that I'm only 23!!) And was just wondering when you find out your term timetable? Will this be in freshers week or do you get it before? And also to anyone currently studying Accountancy and Finance what is a regular weekly timetable like for yourselves? for example how many days are you in Uni per week, number of lectures etc?

Any help would be much appreciated

Ah. I might recommend that you find a similar thread in a different subforum - this is the Durham University subforum, so we can only really answer questions related to the one we know about.

Hiya. :-)

Timetables and module information are available freely on the Durham University website:

http://www.dur.ac.uk/resources/faculty.handbook/degrees/frameworks/nn43.pdf
shows you the modules you'll be taking, and if you click the hyperlink for each module, you'll be able to find out more detailed information, such as course content and the number of teaching hours.

Look here
https://www.dur.ac.uk/timetable/students/
for more information on actual timetabling - the one for 2013/14 is apparently available

Hi, do you think it's already available to future students?
You need to log in, in order to access the timetable, and I'm guessing you obtain these details later on...? thanks!

Need to log on to this timetable? http://timetable.dur.ac.uk/room_dur.htm
It didn't throw up anything for me. :s-smilie:

You can always try looking at the Module Clash Checker, which is confusing to read, but should have the same information on it.

Yeah, a pop up window asks for login and password, "University of Durham ITS login".

I tried to decipher the module clash checker, which isn't easy
thanks!

Oh dear. :K: Our ITS (Information Technology Services) department rebranded itself to CIS (Computer Information Services) about... two years ago? It seems ridiculous that they haven't changed all the branding on the website yet.

In any case, the "ITS login" is the username and password you'll receive, probably towards the end of the Summer, used to access e-mail and desktop user accounts in Durham.

Any luck working the timetable out?
Do you actually get to use the Palace Green library as a part of your acadmic studies (History undergraduate), or is it more of a general knowledge place that you can use for your own sake?
Hi,

Just a quick question for the people that are/have studied this course: is it fully flexible in it's units of study? Can you really study a lot of different subjects and courses? Could I do Sport with Sociology? Geography with Business? After the Foundation Year, could I progress to single hons/double hons, etc and so forth?

How did you all find the course/how are you currently finding it? Do you get some kind of subjects and units list to choose from when you start?

Thanks!

This is a bit random, but my mum bought a gown last year in a sale in cambridge... will it be okay to wear in durham? Or is there something special and specific about durham gowns?

I believe that gowns at all universities are slightly different in their requirements - you can find out more by looking it up online, such as here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groves_classification_system

Most people probably won't notice, but there's a chance someone will object.

Hello,

I've just got my place confirmed to study Geography BSc, yay! I was wondering whether its possible to, and how I might go about, changing to an MSc course? Should I just ask when I arrive?

Thanks
Hello,

I am student from Germany and I will start the MSc. Finance and Investment in Durham. I would like to ask if any of you took the PARSE programme.(http://www.dur.ac.uk/englishlanguage.centre/englishlanguage.courses/prospectivestudents/summer-pre-sessional/programmeoutline/onemonth/)

awareness of academic conventions (citation format; understanding the functions of referencing)

developing critical approaches to academic reading

learning to emulate common text-types in writing (e.g. literature review, empirical research based report & thesis-based discussion essay)

academic formality and style

note-taking techniques (e.g. mind-mapping)

Since I am on a Budget and I have several events here in Germany at the time of the programme I am not sure wheter to take it or not. I don't have any problems with understanding speaking and listening English and writing should be fine too, but I don't know what exactly to expect in terms of assigments and essays. I am fraid it could affect my performance if I don't take the course. Did anybody do the course and tell me more about it or even send me some documents? That'd be great! Thanks in advance

Yeah, just asking your department about it when you arrive should be fine - I'm under the impression that in all the sciences, the first year of the course is identical for BSc and MSc, and that you can freely change during your first year. Might be a good idea to e-mail and ask about it early, though.

...although MScs have higher entry requirements than BSc courses, so I assume they can't just let everyone change?

Hi!

Im going to do my master degree in management at Durham University, so I have a few questions. As I am a Norwegian, I have no idea how the collegiate system works, whats the point of it, and which is "the best one".

I have been accepted as a member at University College. But since I am a postgraduate student, I have been placed at Brackenbury.
Is Brackenbury far away from the city centre, and is it far away from the Business School campus? And is there a specific college that most business students attend to?

Thanks in advance!

Cool, I'll probably send an email before the August results, while most places aren't yet confirmed.
Thanks a lot
Hi there;
i am an internatinal student and have been admitted in Durham university for post graduate program. i would love to stay in campus, but i have to be sure that it's cheaper then private accomodation (outside univeristy). can anyone guide me, which accomodation is more economical and better to live. i have good experience of living in flats. Any advise will be appreciated.
