If you go through adjustment and get into Durham, how will accommodation work? Do you have to get external accommodation?
(as it seems internal colleges are full)

Okay, that makes more sense. Obviously I'm not asking you for a 100% committed answer, but do you think it might be all right (assuming I moved in on the Saturday) if I spent Saturday and Sunday morning at the university and then travelled home on Sunday afternoon to get to the event by the evening? But yeah, I think I will need to know which day I'm expected to move in before I can plan anything.

As I said, my flatmate was able to travel to and from London during our Fresher's Week for a day and had no issue with it. Equally, while you might miss out on a few activities, that will be all you miss out on, and I'm not under the impression you'd have a particular problem with it at all.

Okay, that's great. Thank you again for the advice.

Judging by the swim team website they only train in water at Freeman's quay now, that's in Durham near the town centre. There are other pools in other local towns but they're obviously not very close! I would say that the pool is about 20-30 mins walk from Aidan's though (which I believe you're at!) depending on how fast you walk. It's not that far :P

Why are you hoping there's more than one?

Oh no, I wasn't hoping , that was just the impression I was getting

thank you for everything
Hi, I was just wondering if there were any Geography students who could answer my question:
I've got a place at Durham starting this October to do BA Geography (conditional), but if I got there and preferred the BSc modules and course, would it be possible to change? Does it depend on the number of people and the demand?

Thank you!
Hey guys, does anyone know if Durham caters more private school children or state school children.

It's around 60% state which is roughly the same as Oxbridge, Imperial, UCL, ect.

Hi!
I'm an international student, and have applied to Durham :-)
Does anyone know if any of the colleges have more international students than others? Or is it pretty much the same?
I haven't put a college preference, and are trying to find out if there are any stats that can give me a hint of where I'll end up if I get an offer!
Hi, I have an offer to study English Literature at University College (2015)
I was wondering if any current English students would be able to answer a couple of questions?
-What was the transition from A Level essays to undergrad like? Was it horrendous?
-How did you know which modules to choose?!

Also, would any University College students be able to give me a brief overview of college life and its atmosphere?

Thank you!

There is definitely still space in some colleges.

Hi! I don't know about other colleges, but my college (Chad's) has a specific bit of the constitution about international reps for international students in the JCR and more widely in college

Edit - forgot to add that there are international tea parties once or twice a term that are just for international students and college staff (eg tutors, etc).

Hello,
what are the accommodations like at St Chads? (like how big are the rooms, are the bathrooms clean..e.t.c)

Hey, can anyone give me a heads up on what Queen's Campus and the Stockton area is actually like? I've got an offer to study Primary Education at John Snow but I can't seem to find much information on what it's like living at Queens Campus. The impression I'm getting is that it's really rough and boring there and that you don't feel a part of Durham

Your college choice will make little difference to your studies, if any at all. However, the two you've chosen are pretty much completely polar opposites in terms of everything - both are equally good, however! It depends on a huge number of things which will be better for you - do you want to be close to your classes, or do you not mind a bit of exercise? Do you want to be catered or self-catered? Do you want an en-suite, or don't you mind sharing a bathroom? Are you happy to share a room, or do you want privacy? Historical old buildings, or up-to-date new modern ones? All students in one place, or spread out over a number of buildings? Have a think about these factors when making your college choice, particularly when thinking of two so very different options!

I'm a Butler student myself, so I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about there specifically

Clonedmemories has some great points, it depends what's important for you to have in a college! I'm also at Butler  Since we don't get teaching in colleges, your subject makes very little difference beyond walking distance (perhaps in a few cases one college library may have more books, but everything you need is in the main library really), and that's only when living in (first year, perhaps more if you desire). If there's anything specific you'd like, we can try to help you see how different colleges match up!

Hey, the rooms vary a lot in size, but there aren't any real shoeboxes. People who share rooms in first year often get very spacious rooms. I shared a bathroom in 1st year and it was always pretty much immaculate; i think shared bathrooms get cleaned every other day...
