Hello guys.

I got an offer for the MA Translation studies and live in Colombia. I'm looking for private accommodation in Durham and I don't mind not living near campus (I plan on buying a bicycle). I was wondering when is the best time to arrive at Durham to look for accommodation? I don't want to sign or pay for anything I haven`t seen in person and then be stuck to a place I hate for the entire year. Anny suggestions?

Thanks!
Hello guys!I received offers from Durham (Combined Honours in Social Sciences), Newcastle (Combined Honours) and Lancaster (Management, Politics and International Relations). I am thinking about firming Durham, but I am not sure. As for the insurance I really have no idea. Do you have any advices? As I am an European student, unfortunately, I am not able to come and visit the universities. i am mostly interested in prestige/graduate prospects (for Business and International relations)International outlookThe friendliness of the placeThe type of lifestyleI would be very happy with a great degree and a welcomimg community that you can easily bond with.If you cam share your opinions amd maybe some insights of these places I would be more than grateful. Sorry for the long post
hey! i have an offer for law at collingwood and wondered if someone could tell me what the set up is like for your flat? roughly how many people sharing a flat and how many bathrooms? also does each flat have a communal area with sofas etc? or is there just one for the college as a whole?
I was wondering what the accomodation at Castle and St Chad's is like??

It's sure that students should not reduce any room in that disgusting conditions, but I think that with the help of cleaners it's much easier to maintain the rooms super clean. That is why I asked

There's a difference between tidying and cleaning. Students are expected to keep their rooms tidy so it's easier for the cleaner to clean (i.e. taking stuff off the floor so they can hoover). Cleaners mainly deal with communal things like corridors, bathrooms and kitchens.

Hello guys!I am curious wether or not there are many study abroad opportunities within university and how hard is to obtain a year abroad as a Combined Honours student
Hi, Can I know how much does it cost for a taxi trip from the Newcastle airport to Durham Marriott Hotel? Many thanks!!
Can anyone tell me what the LGBT scene is like at Durham? Are most students generally accepting? Are there many LGBT club nights and activities?
Where do you buy your red trousers from?

Also, how many Vertus do you own?

Many, many opportunities to study abroad (have a look on the university website for more information). Lots of CH students do a year abroad. It's very easy and very popular (and compulsory if you do modules in MLAC). Which subjects are you interested in? I might be able to give you more of an idea of your options.

Most students are completely accepting and the few that aren't get shot down very quickly. The LGBT scene is smaller in Durham than in many other places, but it's working to become bigger. The LGBTa holds a 'Rainbow Night' every week in a bar on the bailey (I think St Cuthbert's, but I'm not certain) with films to watch for people who aren't into drinking, and Monday night at Osbourne's (bar) is the big LGBT night. They also run campaigns and events (I know they did a big thing for the Trans Day of Remembrance and lots of events of LGBT History Month, for example). It's open to everybody, including allies, although I have some friends who refuse to get involved because they have lots of 'queer' events and use terms like 'queer rights' and they find it offensive. Durham Pride takes place in the summer (I think last year was the second time it's happened?) and is a really nice way for the university to come together with the wider community.

Thanks for your response  I'm interested in studying Business and International Relations and maybe adding a language. Are you a CH student as well?
Do you know where they hold the Sociology modules? (Maybe on the science site?)

Yep, I read modern languages and history  If you add a language then a year abroad is almost a given! I don't have much experience with business or IR but I know that both departments encourage their students to consider studying abroad.

There's usually 8-12 people per corridor area, sharing a couple of bathrooms. All but a few corridors (en-suite ones) have a small communal pantry, but otherwise there aren't any communal seating areas - the idea is you use the JCR or coffee shop area downstairs, which has sofas, table tennis, pool etc. Mostly we just sit in someone or other's room to socialise.

Hey everyone! I'm an international student and have been allocated to St. Cuthbert's to study sociology. Would like to know more about that society if someone could help. 😊 Also, how's the city as I dont know much about it?

Hi, there is a taxi company called Airport Express which usually does Newcastle airport - Durham for 30 pounds. You can look it up online if you want to book a trip with them.
Best night to go into town? Best venues, that aren't extortionately priced? Any venue that plays Feed Em To The Lions a lot is a great bonus too.

Hi, I have an offer (University College) for History and am trying to decide between here and UCL. Could any History student tell me a bit about the course, mainly how much European history do you get an opportunity to do, and how much modern history? I know the thing about having to do one Medieval, one Early modern and one Late modern but what kind of a range is there within that? There seem to be only about four modules to choose from in each era; is this observation accurate? Also a more detailed description of a module, particularly a modern one, would be valued. Finally, how likely are you to get a year abroad roughly? Thanks in advance!
