Any idea when they send out English offers and when the latest I can get an offer is? Just want to know when I can stop waiting in anticipation ..

I just got allocated to Collingwood college, after making an open application, but after doing my research I would prefer a Bailey college. I would love to know what people think about Collingwood. Oh, and I'm a law applicant hopefully to start in 2018

They will have started sending out offers before Christmas and they'll continue until April/May - although they will probably try to get through most of them by the end of March to allow people to attend post-offer days. No news is good news - hang in there!

Collingwood is nice! Quite big, quite sporty, always lots going on. I don't know masses about it but they have a good bar and a nice gym, and their own theatre company. It's quite informal and seems fairly chilled
Just wondering,Does anybody know if students in self-catering accommodation have to clear out all their possessions as the end of each term? I was told it is college dependant but I can't imagine people having to lug kitchen equipment home etc.

Pretty sure they don't- I'm in Cuth's on the Bailey but I know people in Parsons Field (Cuths' self-catered accommodation) don't have to. Can't say for sure about Butler but I'm pretty sure they don't have to either.

Yeah that's not the case at all. Butler student
I've researched into the physics course and looked into all the modules and entry requirements etc, but cant seem to find any information on whether you get an interview as part of the application process when applying for physics at Durham (3 year course), an answer to this would be much appreciated.

They do not interview as standard, but they may do if your situation is a bit out of the ordinary (unusual qualifications etc). Assuming you're applying at the normal time with A levels, you won't be interviewed

Ah ok thanks for the help
Is it normal to have to wait this long for Maths? People in my school have got offers already for the same subject and our A-level predictions are the same..!:frown: I just want to know

Just read your previous post about choosing a college! I'm at Durham now and in my 3rd year. I would say that the hill colleges are more the 'party' colleges. I'm in Cuth's and wouldn't say that we're a party college at all, or perhaps that was just my experience! John's is small but has a nice atmosphere as it's on the Bailey. Good luck!

Hi, sorry about how late this is, but I got into Cuth's and have a few questions. Would you know if people on the Bailey have to pack up every term? Also do they take into account your subjects when you're applying to Brooks House/the Bailey? (neglecting order of preference on form). Thank you!
Are there any current/former geology students here?

If it's ok, I'd like to know more about the course and the department e.g. if you found the course enjoyable, how many field trips per year there are (excluding the mandatory residential ones), class size, facilities etc.

Any information would be helpful really!
would you recommend Durham for an avid mountain biker?

I'm currently on the bailey in Cuth's and no, you don't have to pack up every term. However you do have to move out for the offer holder days which are in the easter holidays. Most rooms have lockboxes under the beds so you can leave a lot of stuff though. And as far as I know subject has nothing to do with which accommodation you're allocated.

Ok, the number of new threads in this sub-forum has increased dramatically of late and a lot of these could have been avoided with a little research (i.e use of the "search" function). That's not to say that the issues raised in each thread aren't important, but it's just not feasible for new threads to be started everytime somebody has a question.

Having discussed this with the moderators, the new plan is for this here thread, the "Ask a Current Student" thread to be created and stickied in the Durham sub-forum. If you have a question which you feel can be answered quickly and succinctly with just a couple of posts and you can't find the answer you are looking for using the "search" function, simply post your question in here, and with any luck a current Durham student will happily oblige and try to answer.

Also, here's a link to Becca's hugely useful and informative Durham FAQ Thread: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=130882

I hope this helps unclog the Durham sub-forum and look forward to seeing the thread in use .
