I have a question. What was Queen's Campus called before 2002 when it took its current name. I think it only take the name then. Was it just "the Stockton campus"?

All the bus compaies insist on calling it "Teessdale University". As well as being just plain wrong (as Stockton isn't even in Teesdale and it isn't its own university) It's just confusing.

According to Wikipedia, it was 'Joint University College on Teesside of the Universities of Durham and Teesside (JUCOT)', then 'University College, Stockton', then 'University of Durham, Stockton Campus', before finally becoming 'Queens Campus, Stockton' in 2002.
It was UDSC

Thanks  2002 was the year I applied to Durham so I thought it was called "Stockton campus" just before that time although I wasn't sure about when it was still partly owned by Teesside. Seems a long name.

Still, Teesdale university. It makes me chuckle whenever I see it.
I started in 2002 and i think it got its queens campus slightly after i started - maybe by a few years i dunno though.
Has the campus been owned by university of teeside?? Its actually written on a stone thing as you enter the holliday building says something like university of durham stockton campus opened - then the date, the something from the chancellor in the year that it opened! And it was only built in that year.

Wikipedia sucks huge style anyways.
Bus companies call it teesdale - you wanna be careful there - theres a college called teesdale not so far away. Not stockton reiverside college though another one!
Oh new halls and old halls seems to be a favourite with taxi drivers.

I cant wait to leave queens now im ready to just go all the life and soul has been sucked out of the place and its really sad. People seem to be moving towards durham for the social aspects now because everthing in stockton has basically collapsed now - which is such a shame because i met some of my best friends at the union and on nights out. It was a small campus i knew practically everyone on nights out. Oh well how times have changed now!!

A different kinda crowd seem to be entering stockton campus now though ive noticed.

Then again not necessarily a bad thing because now fairy gets nice house for alot cheaper.

Dont get me wrong my first 4 years there were amazing and people at the uni cant support you enough.

It was built in 1992 as a joint venture between Durham and Teesside. Durham took full control in 1994. I know it was renamed QC in 2002 as that was the jubilee year I just wasn't sure what its previous names were.

I've tried telling Arriva and NEXUS that it's not "Teesdale university" but they won't listed. It is QC they are referring to.

Wel on the NEXUS electrionic boards at Newcastle Eldon Square it says "Teesdale university", on the electionic sign of the XI it says Teesdale uni and, until recently, did on the timetables also.

Stockton isn't in Teesdale, it's its own borough (although traditionally split between North Yorkshire and County Duham).

Teesdale is, unsupringly, the sparsely populated rural area of the Tees valley. Where Middleton, Barnard Castle, Ingleton -those sorts of towns and villages are. Stockton is more Teesside than anything else.

Anyway, this is not really relevant. So, onto Hollz127s' question, anyone know how many people resat cell biology last year

Has Durham really upped its entry requirements for 2009 undergrads?? I got their new prospectus today, finally, and it's changed from AAB to AAA for geography....I'm so upset/frustrated because I know I wont get that, but I've fallen in love with Durham already.
Are these new requirements for definite/do they have any leeway?

Thanks.

A levels have gotten easier, hence higher grade requirements. The chances of them lowering them depends of course who applies, unlikely imo unless you have a special reason for a reduced offer.
The typical offer will account for the majority of offers, and the other will mainly be when someone takes an A-level that has little bearing on their aptitude for their degree subject. For example imagine someone applying for maths who takes Maths, Further Maths and French and applies for maths, the maths department might not care what the french result is. For Geography that is unlikely to be the case no matter what you take, such is the broadness of the subject.

All you can do is try to write a really good personal statment and hope for the best.

AAA for Geography? Wow, never knew that.

Damn, I suppose that means I'm getting stupid-er (proof, i actually considered that to be a word....) because I honestly can't see myself getting an A in chemistry/maths.

What would you have to say on your PS to be in with a chance or your application being looked at, if you predicted grades were say, ABB or at most AAB?

It's one of the top geography departments in the country so it's understantable. Let's face it, it's Durham so it's bound to happen. They have one of the best philosophy departments in the country and that had a offer of ABB (not it's AAA/AAB). Politics has been AAA for a good while and it's nothing special.

It's unlikely they wil lower or bargain on an offer unless you ahve serious mitigating circumstances.

So, do you mean the majority of the 2008 offers have gone upto AAA, and hence that why they're asking for higher grades?

Grrr Durham, grr standards. If you were to have er....circumstances that would adversely affect you throughout (and upto, but wasn't menitioned) AS, particularly at the beginning, but didn't want it to be dragged on/out throughout A2, no consideration would be given, right?

No, other way round. The typical offer has gone up, and so the majority (although not necessarily all) next year's offers will be AAA

If it only affected you for part of your AS? It's difficult to say really. They aren't really too happy about letting some in even with ongoing mitigating circumstances. It was certainly a fight in my case.

Depending on its severity and whether or not you can provide evidence for it (such as doctors letter if it's a medical problem) then possibly. But, given that it hasn't affected you throughout your studies, probably not.
