Cool thank you

Oh and how are rooms connected to the internet? Broadband or by a cable/plug thing (I don't know what that's called...)

Wired Ethernet (they provide a cable). Just make sure what you get has a 10/100 ethernet adapter (or even a gigabit one). Virtually all laptops have them nower days.

Which colleges are best for football and pool (and other sports)? Is there a big sporting rivalry between the Hill colleges and the Bailey ones? I don't really care for rowing tbh. Now, white water kayaking and sailing is another matter.

Question. Does the university have swimming facilities? I think I would like to take it up again recreationally.

There is a pool near Hild Bede that costs £110 for the year I think...

It is on a QWERTY keyboard, the e and r are next to each other and I hate using my poor wee little finger to press the a key. It doesnt like it :frown:

I like it! Nower days makes more sense because it kind of means days which are more "now" than other days. Where on earth did the "a" come from in nowadays? Methinks it is just there for phonological euphony than any real meaning...

*geek out* apologies.

As ever, blame the French for the "a" :p:

Its council ran, so not really. If you were at Hild Bede, I dont think it would be a bad deal really.

Yeah well for that amount, I'd rather run. It's free.

Or jump into the River Wear. But common sense tells me that wouldn't be wise.

:frown: I know that's intended as a joke and I'm probably completely humourless but I didn't find that funny. A student died a few years ago doing that.

Well, I don't know if he did it deliberately. rHe was walking back (probably drunk) to college and wasn't seen since. His department got in touch with the college after he had missed a few tutorials. The college staff asked the guy's friends who admitted they hadn't seen him in a few days either (good friends). His body was found in the river near Sunderland soon after.

I think that's what happened, it was a number of years ago.

Sorry to bring you all down.....

£110 for the year or £2.80 a pop... you don't have to join for the whole year to use it! I pay as I go and go 1-2 times a week; it's fine for swimming lengths.
However it won't be there next year; there's a new leisure centre opening in July complete with gym and other facilities which is replacing it. Behind the Gala theatre near the bowling alley I believe.

Bit of a random question - which mobile phone provider has the best coverage in Durham? Because I'm on Virgin and on the occasions I've been to Durham and stayed in Van Mildet, I've found I have no signal at all unless I climb on the desk and virtually fall out the window, and I'd really rather not do that for the next three years...

Are any of the others markedly better? Thanks.

Don't do that. We wouldn't want to set a trend

Half two two thirds down.

Can't comment myself. I don't even know what network I'm with

Fair enough, I just saw a big sign in college when sticking my posters up and missed the small print.

If the new leisure complex is any good I might be inclined to join it next year, along with the stack of other things that I intend to do...

Not too sure about that, there are a few nasty toffs that I would like to see try that ritual... :colone:

That's awful. And a cautionary tale.

Don't drink and go by/towards large bodies of water. And get some good friends obviously.
