It is forever a problem with rivers and drunken students. We had a few deaths near me from that.

O2 coverage is generally good.

You know it's apparently the law to have everyone at primary school to be able to swim, so events like these don't happen. I am pants at swimming though, never stopped me from sailing though.

Bit of a random question - which mobile phone provider has the best coverage in Durham? Because I'm on Virgin and on the occasions I've been to Durham and stayed in Van Mildet, I've found I have no signal at all unless I climb on the desk and virtually fall out the window, and I'd really rather not do that for the next three years...

Are any of the others markedly better? Thanks.

I'm on Virgin and I only have trouble getting reception while I'm in college (Butler), but everyone else here seems to have the same problem no matter what network they're on. Maybe the walls are lined with lead or something.

Nah not lead, most of the colleges are made out of reinforced concrete for the large part. The best killer of wireless signals pretty much.
Are the lecture theatres made out of reinforced concrete too (but not the buildings)? I find my signal always drops to zero when in lecture theatres, and find it returns to full as soon as I exit...

Argh! Try living in an ex-council house. Fine, solidly built houses with big, thick concrete walls.

Doesn't do much good for my wireless Internet signal though!

Yeah. The problem with it is that it often has wire mesh in it too. Double whammy...
hey does anyone knows what banks are there in durham?
natwest, HSBC, Barclays, Northern Rock and Co-op. There might possibly be an RBS somewhere as well.

RBS is in effect Natwest I think, Natwest is a subsiduary of them.

How do they sort out the accommodation for St Cuthberts. Are all of the corridors/kitchens at Parsons field mixed sex? Also do they match you up with people that share your interests or is that only for the shared rooms it the Bailey?
